I don't understand why some people are critical of this movie. I thought it was a really good movie & visually & special effects wise arguably the best movie ever made thus far. I guess the storyline is comparable to other movies but how many movies aren't. There really isn't that many original movies being made. Everything seems to be based on a book or a comic book hero or it's a remake of an older movie & most are pretty good movies themselves.

The story is old but it was updated in a nice way.

I don't think it was any thing special or great............. it is an over grown kids movie which is not a bad thing.

I just fear the day they cross breed smurfs and elves. Those commercials weirded me out.

Avatar is like a restored 65 Mustang. Except the guy that restored it only worried about looks and never bothered with the engine. So the engine is old and rusty with frayed wires and leaks all over the place. It looks like but its really just a POS.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

Remakes are nothing new in Hollywood. Some of the greatest films ever made have been remakes such as Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, and The Maltese Falcon. No one remembers the early versions because they sucked and the cream always rises to the top. However remaking Hulk twice in 5 years is just stupid.

The same thing applies to books being adapted into movies. It's always happened and it will continue to happen. There is nothing wrong with it because they are such different formats. An original screenplay doesn't equal a better or more original movie.

To say that there aren't any original movies being made is ridiculous. Just look at this years Academy Award nominations for best picture. Avatar, Blind Side, District 9, An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Precious, Up, A Serious Man, Up In The Air. We could talk all week about whether of not these movies should have been nominated but my point is that none of these are remakes.

I never said there weren't any original movies I said there wasn't that many. A movie don't have to be totally original for me to enjoy it.

Ahem. Yes, one of those movies you named is a remake.

It's not a remake, its a completely different movie. Only the name is the same. Read the description of the movie.

This is an excerpt in the link you provided,

"Severin Films released a three-disc set that features: a newly remastered transfer of the film; an interview with Quentin Tarantino (the director of the similarly titled but unrelated film Inglourious Basterds)"

It usually helps if you actually read things before you post them.

I saw it and thought it was horrible and that is putting it lightly. Its like modern day smurfs mixed with the pocahontas (sp?) story.

HAHAHHAhaha....

Movie is alright at best. Actors are terrible. Story is terrible. For the easily amused, CGI will make any movie "the greatest ever".

How were the actors terrible? How was the story terrible? CGI was a big part of the movie but it was a good movie regardless. U can compare the story to something else but there's not a single movie u can't do the same for. There's gonna be haters no matter what with anything.

Ever seen Dances with Wolves? Put it on a different planet, switch Indians with aliens, TA-DA! You got yourself Avatar.

There were so many things that were wrong with the movie. First off, you can't come up with a better name than Unobtanium? I literally laughed when I heard that. What the hell makes the stuff so important? Were all those guys enlisted or ex-military? That whole "I can see you" stuff was eye rolling. Was it an awful movie? In IMAX 3D, no. At home, yes. They spent so much time on the 3D they forget the rest of the movie. If kinda felt like George Lucas made it.

Now this is something we can agree on:eek:k:

throw in heavy doses of "Ferngully", "The Lorax" and every other cliche dealing with virtuous natives that are one with the earth battling the evil white man with his machines and lust for gold, oil, or unobtainium.

btw, the soldiers were mercenaries, hired by the "corporation". Sam Worthington's character was an ex-marine.
