Average black women net worth less than a McDonald's value meal

BS only cause the sample size is too small. If you polled inner city black women it's probably not far off but white women would be in the same bracket too.

I think this can only be a study inside a study; meaning the "actual" study is to see how many people would actually believe there's any validity to the $5 claim.

As someone who does research and publishes results this kind of crap drives me nuts:

Tulane University social work professor Rebecca Chaisson said she isn't surprised by the results and that there are many reasons for them, including a black woman's tendency to care for family and friends outside the home.
"It's one of the main traditions," Chaisson said. "The helping tradition, and it has been around since the days of slavery."
When the survey asked if the individual had loaned money to family or friends in the past year, 60 percent of black women said yes, compared with 52 percent of white women.

I'm sure 60 vs 52% is statistically significant in this study but does it really justify the conclusion that there is a cultural difference in helping friends and family?

Not if you count divorce settlements/alimony/child support.

I would say that this is probably about right. This essentially blows the lid off of the so-called "strong and independent" black woman myth.

I'm out here on the streets. The truth is not pretty. 70% of black children are born to single mothers. How many of those single mothers were probably teenagers living with their 30-32 year old mom? Real talk, it is not uncommon to see three generations under one roof with neither women with a father/husband present.

But here is the thing that should keep some of you white folks awake at night. Single white mothers with children out of wed lock is on the rise also. That means more welfare, more lost ambition. Less income. No wealth. The black community has been the canary in the coal mine for the last 45-50 years. Now, you are starting to see the ramifications of family courts (divorce laws and custody battles) and big gov't subsidizing of single mothers starting to tear at the fabric of larger society.

All you have to do is cut off welfare and fix the family courts.

You have probably explained in this forum before, but what kind of fixes to family courts are you referring to. I'm genuinely interested in your opinion on this.

Award men custody more often than the courts do right now would be the easiest thing to do. Women have shown over the last 45-50 years that they are incapable of raising families by themselves. Not saying it would be any better or easier for men, but you have fathers out here that actually do care about their children and would take better care of them than a woman that only sees them as a paycheck or a hindrance to their weekend plans to go to the club. Also, instead of $$$ in the cases, more emphasis should be placed on time spent with the child. Money isn't all you need to raise a child. Plus, any money given in child support needs to be itemized by whoever is receiving the $$$. Momma can't take the child support money to get a new weave or step her shoe game up.

OK. Thanks, RV.

Yeah, lets make them out to be Florence Nightingale or Mother Teresa... nurturing and altruistic. It doesn't have anything to do with the choices that they make for being poor. No, instead, it is because of their sacrifice and taking care of their families. Really?

You usually judge a tree by it's fruit. What kind of fruit have they produced (under their leadership in these single parent run households)?

Like I said, real talk, this is part of the problem with the black community. Black men have been beaten up in the media (rightfully so) for being irresponsible. But nobody ever puts a spot light on the BS that these women do that contributes to the problem. Instead, they make them heroes. They put capes on them and reinforce this fake stereotype.

Mom of Terrell Owens' child says T.O. is $20,000 past due *| ajc.com

Former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens is $20,000 in arrears in his child support payments to the Atlanta mother of one of his children, and she wants him fined or jailed if he doesn’t pay up, according to a new petition her attorney filed Friday.
So how do you expect to get $20,000 if he is in jail?

Last summer, Owens, popularly known as T.O., blamed the NFL lockout on his inability to make the $5,000 monthly payments to Smith and asked a judge to lower them to $2,500. The request was denied. He caught up with his payments and appeared to have continued them through November.

$2,500/month can buy a lot of pampers and milk.

“It's just a shame that those women don't want to work and do something to help support my kids," he told GQ.

Of course they don't want to work. The system has it rigged so that a baby is a walking ATM for these women. He's been paying her $5,000 a month for 4 years up until last summer, when he was out of work, asked for a reduction because of it, and now this trick is gonna call him a "deadbeat" and threaten him with jail.

It's never really about the kids, it's all about that $$$...

It would be the small sized value meal too and not counting tax. You wouldn't be able to super size it.
