Awaka is gonna be a player

Not a lot of big programs would have took a player of his caliber out of high school.

Really makes you appreciate what a great job Barnes has done developing players.

Barnes staff found him but I’m not sure how much development has occurred yet. He has natural talents & instincts that show he’s played hoop at a high level (NYC). The development will be next couple yrs.

I think the offensive post moves have been either, A.) A pleasant, unexpected surprise, or B.) A development in his game in a short time. It was expected that he would need a while before contributing much on offense because his post game was still raw.

He should be a high school senior this year I think...Didn't he reclassify to this year so he could enroll here??

Yeah he ain’t 6-11,and doesn’t have long arms but he has tremendous hand eye coordination. He’ll get a lot of loose balls, rebounds & points off those.

I think he is going to be incredible - perfect timing for rebounding and is developing an inside game. Averaging more than 1 rebound per two minutes played - works out to more than 15 rebounds a game if he was playing 30 minutes.
I think he is just scratching the surface - should be fun to watch.

I would go with A and B. I’m really not terribly surprised, though, because you can see tremendous improvement from November 6th to now. I think he’s just so intelligent and such a hard worker that his improvement has flourished. Really exciting. He also made a great defensive play on Tolu down in the paint.

Holy crap. Basically averaging 15 and 15 were he playing starters’s minutes
It's fun to project, but other things that need to be considered are things like conditioning. One thing that is impressive about Tshiebwe is the number of minutes he plays and maintains that level of consistency. I keep saying that, IMO, Awaka has Tshiebwe-level talent on the boards, but he will need to continue getting in better shape as his minutes increase. If he can keep up the improvement on offense, the sky is the limit.

And I hate to sound like I am continually picking on Nkamhoua, but he had 0 rebounds, tonight, in 18 minutes. That's a problem.

Yeah, I mean you’re definitely right. But let me enjoy myself :)

Unfortunately, that’s been his MO for a long time. It will continue to be. I will say that he really had some very nice touch on his little jumpers tonight.

The thing I like most about Awaka along with Aidoo’s improvement is the pressure they put on Uros & ON to compete for PT. I’m not a basketball coach, but it appears to me that the seniors are more consistent on defense. The younger guys are clearly rebounding better. IIRC Uros only had one “what are you doing” play tonight where he got the 3 second call. He’s improving on receiving the ball and making a decisive move to the rim. Also made a couple good passes out of the post. I think Aidoo gets some credit for that

Plavsic was dunking on 'Dogs and he and Aidoo are great passers from the high post

And Bradshaw was correct on that play by Plavsic, that whoever fed him the ball (Nkamhoua, maybe) was to blame. He needs the ball deeper in the lane, not 12 feet from the basket.

I agree with your point, but Uros should have passed it back out if he was too far out instead of the fumbling bumbling routine. But, is there any other times he made you want to yell at the tv? He was the only guy we had who could hold his position with Smith. Went 5-5, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist in 15 minutes without making one stupid foul.

Awaka turns 19 in 3 weeks.

Julian turned 19 two months ago.

DJ turns 20 in the spring.

BJ turned 20 two months ago.

Looks like Tobe is the youngest player on the roster. Dilione might could be younger - he’s not on the official UTBB website yet.

Yeah, but he still has to realize he can’t just sit in the paint. Needed to pass it away as soon as he realized he was that far out.
