Awaka is gonna be a player

I think that’s probably a good analysis. But I also see enough athleticism and feel for the game (an underrated aspect of GW’s game) to think his offensive game could really blossom if he puts in the work.
Certainly possible.

Actually, I do agree with the gist of your post(s). To viewers who are not physically at the arena, the broadcasters are the only way to receive who the foul was on, who did this or that, or who want to have a play detailed or explained by an expert who can do that. I find myself frustrated watching a televised game and pertinent information being left out.

This happens frequently and there are just things the viewer is not shown on live shots that the broadcasters are privy to. I’m really not sure as to why this shift in communication has evolved, but it definitely leaves the viewer in the dark.

Ah, yeah, that was probably a thing ESPN/ the SEC Network wanted him to do. I’m ok, and actually want my commentators to have some personality. Makes a more enjoyable product.
Out of curiosity, do you ever drive without some type of audio playing? I used to always have music playing but for a long time now I prefer to drive along without added noise. Maybe that has something to do with why I don’t care for useless banter when I tune into an athletic event

I listen mostly to music…..rarely to talk or sports shows.

Will be interesting this year to see if he gets minutes matched up in the KY games. Probably some lessons to be learned there.
It will be quite interesting. Tshiebwe has the motor, the smarts, the desire to do the things he does so well. Awaka has those same things, with the difference being the vast experience Oscar has. I think Awaka will compete and not look silly doing it. Either way, Awaka learns by watching/going up against Tshiebwe. Should be interesting.

Pre-COVID, Dane was my favorite bball commentator. He talked almost exclusively about the game he was calling, providing insight and explaining details someone less knowledgeable about the sport like myself didn’t understand. I have to think the “consultants got a hold of him and he now babbles on about all kinds of nonsense besides the game being played. A huge regression to me but I must be an outlier since almost every commentator in every sport these days babbles on about like those crazy women on The View.
IMO Dane does a good job however I have noticed a little more chatter from him lately. I usually watch with the sound muted most of the game but if it EVER approaches the level of the moronic fools on The View I’d shoot the TV screen I assure you👍🏻

I have to have noise. I’d go crazy without podcasts or music lol

Last night he was wearing the Georgia face stickers talking football. Also recall him talking about walking his dog in downtown Knoxville just off the top of my head

I think a big part of that is the fact that we were beating the absolute dog farts out of Mississippi State.

Plus, he’s obviously developed a rapport with Tom Hart over the last few years. If you’re watching a blowout game with a buddy at home, you probably won’t be dissecting the finer points of a pick and roll.

Not a lot of tension/suspense + comfort = chit chat

Just had a chance to watch the SC game which was a complete blowout yet the announcers didn’t blabber on about anything other than basketball. Outside of the one planned section coming out of a time out where they were hyping the upcoming NC football game, they talked about basketball the whole game. In the last 8 minutes where the game was clearly decided they talked a bit about SEC basketball which seemed appropriate to me. Wish Wise and Fritz would do all our espn games

For a true freshman Awaka is playing very well. When he gets his hands on the ball it’s his. He displays a soft tough around the rim too. Nice frame on him he isn’t super tall but he is strong with a wide body frame. Excited about Awaka. We have some nice size to throw at teams down low. Good depth there now. GBO!

Awaka has by far been the biggest surprise on this team. For most he was thought to be a possible redshirt. Played sparingly against non-conference scrub opponents and unconventionally is playing a lot more minutes now when the games matter more. And he has earned it. Probably my favorite player on the team along with ZZ.

He is going to get a rebound for every 2 minutes he is on the court. His defense is already pretty stout and he is more advanced, yet still raw, on offensive end than anyone would have thought. Rock solid with not much bad weight but will get more athletic and fluid under Barnes who will coach him up on that high release jump shot just like he taught all his big men. I expect over the off-season it is going to be strict coaching on offensive post offense. The year after they will work on his face up game from 15 feet and by the time he gets to his senior year, who knows. Will be a beast at college level in my opinion (double-double guy), and could be one of those atypical specialists who rebounds and defends his way to pro level somewhere. Just a great evaluation to recruit him.
