They want to fix it where you can't call a TO before going out of bounds.

I'm actually in favor of that. At the very least, they should make it where a player has to have his feet on the court to call timeout.

I disagree. Have you all played basketball competitively besides biddy-ball? I think if you did you would see no need to change this rule. If a player can jump from inbounds, catch the ball and call timeout in the air... then they just made a very good play. Sometimes gaining possession of the ball isn't worth wasting a timeout... so you have to be smart about making this play. Chances don't present themselves very often to make this kind of play. I see no reason to change this rule. While they're at it, why don't they take away the players ability to call timeout altogether.

First of all . . .that was a crappy way to start a post :D.

You're probably right that the rule is no big deal. But it just seems like a player should at least have possession on the court in order to be able to call timeout.

Well... if they jump from inbounds and catch the ball before they land out-of-bounds... then they technically have possession while in the air with the ball.

If this rule is taken away... then I just think they are taking away an exciting and sometimes smart play in basketball. The game of basketball continues to be flooded with big post players... let the little guards continue to jump out-of-bounds for the ball and try to help their team out! :peace2:

In my opinion, one of the dumbest rules in sports. I hope they do get rid of it.

Could you possibly explain why you think it's the dumbest rule in sports? An elaboration would be much appreciated.

Keep it, it's cool watching them jump into the stands falling over everything and everyone trying to call a timeout.

I pretty much agree with GAVol on this one. I think a player should have possession of the ball before they can call a time out, and I don't see how a player can obtain possession without first landing (in bounds). I believe that's true of most sports.

True in most sports... like football? Well... in football, you also can't call timeout when a play is already in process. What I'm saying is you can't compare other sports rules because each sport has its own set of rules... they don't try and make them similar. I just don't see where you were going with the "I believe that's true in most sports." Anyways... if this rule affects the game so much that you all feel it needs to be removed... by all means, you win.

Rolling around on the floor, flying through the air calling time out. Get rid of this NBA stuff and get back to college basketball!

I am in favor of this. ive never thought it was fair to be able to call a time out if you are flyin out of bounds.

It would certainly reduce the chances for injury of players, and people in courtside seats. I'd hate to see somebody try and pull this in Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville... around the baseline they could fall 6 feet!

Many times I've thought that CJ was going to hurt himself going after a ball headed out of bounds.

Another "stupid" vote for this rule. Needs to go. It's tough to give a good explanation for why. . . other than that it just seems like your team should have to be in control of the ball, on the playing surface, to be able to call a TO.

It's almost like a team being able to call a timeout in football during a fourth and one run. . . .while in the process of being gang tackled at the line of scrimmage.

AND, another thing: why would this change our "style of play???"

Ah, yes, the old "Don't take his children!" play.

This rule won't be changed because there is absolutely no good reason to change it. It makes sense for this rule to be in place... and if you don't see that, then you obviously haven't played much basketball in your life.

I guess it depends on what your definition of 'basketball' is.

Nice, logical explanation.

Funny how you hear a lot of sportscasters, many of them former basketball players, voicing their displeasure with the rule, eh?
