Nice, logical explanation.

Funny how you hear a lot of sportscasters, many of them former basketball players, voicing their displeasure with the rule, eh?

Thanks... I thought it was logical also. I guess that is pretty funny considering I've never heard a sportscaster "voicing their displeasure with the rule" before... eh? I stand by my case... there is absolutely no GOOD reason that rule should be removed. It's part of the game of basketball and always has been. Hey... maybe next season we can do away with HUSTLING ball players altogether... there's a good idea, eh kiddie? Let's just tell all the players to watch the ball go out of bounds and NOT TRY TO MAKE THE SMART AND ATHLETIC PLAY.

Exactly what I was thinking!

i never really liked that rule either, if u want to keep the ball while flying out of bounds u should either throw it to a teammate or hit another opposing player and hope it goes off of him and out of bounds. Thats the way it was when i played. :dunno:

I'm not sure that statement is correct. I grew up playing and watching a lot of basketball (80s through early 90s), and I never recall the airborne timeout being an option. I don't think people started using it in the NCAA until the early-to-mid 90s. I could be wrong, though. I just remember thinking it was dumb the first time I saw it. I tried to do a search on the history of the airborne timeout, but I couldn't find much. Anybody else have any insight?

Okay, I'll give a little on the second part, but I'm positive the "I grew up playing and watching a lot of basketball (80s through early 90s)" happened at some point in my life. Otherwise, I've drank WAY too much beer. :toast:

Haha... that's pretty good.

I love it when they waste a timeout via the 'airborne method', and then later in the game REALLY need an extra timeout to win the game, and don't have it. TOO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!
