I think Bachmann had no business being President but this is dumb. I heard the audio this morning. It was obvious that she was kidding . . . Not that context ever gets in the way of selective outrage syndrome.

there may be some truth to that. I just think the whole gotcha game on both sides is tiresome especially when it was so obviously a joke.

"I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of politicians," Bachmann said, according to the St. Petersburg Times. "We've had an earthquake; we've had a hurricane. He said, 'Are you going to start listening to me here?' Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we've got to rein in spending."

I just don't see how that could be "joking." Anyone got a link to the audio?

True. I'm just saying that the "I was kidding or making a joke" defense I just don't get. She was joking about natural disasters? She was joking about God? What, exactly, is she having fun with here?

Apparent people devoid of a sense of humor.

If serious, I commend her. If God is responsible for all the good and compassion that happens, then he is also responsible for all the destruction and chaos. At least she is being honest with the argument and not playing both sides. Same goes for Pat Robertson.

Me, I just think everything is chance and God doesn't exist. JMO.

have you heard of recent storm named katrina?

Not relevant. Everybody knows that was George Bush's fault.

But on a serious note, God is in control of everything that happens in the universe. Good and bad. If it happens, it's because He has a reason behind it.

Bachmann: Hurricane Irene Is A Sign God Is Mad At Washington

Seems to me that if He wanted our attention on social policy or morality, He wouldn't see any need to be so indirect or subtle about it.

Does God control nature?

If He does... does He have a purpose in how it acts?

The leap is knowing specifically why these things have happened when and where they do. The Bible is pretty explicit about the fact that we are supposed to revere God because of EVERYTHING we see in nature.... Romans 1 is a good text for that. If man has the proper "awe" of God that nature demands then there's little need to try to draw a narrow "message" like this. God is ALWAYS trying to get man's attention...

Nor do you have associates that were domestic terrorists, manipulate your way into your first elected office, or attain the highest office in the country while never having managed anything more than a Senate staff... woops.

She is singled out and mocked... but when guys like Gore say the earth is telling us to change... he's honored as a prophet.... I guess it is just a matter to which religion and deity you ascribe to, huh?

No

It's a matter of either believing a majority of experts or believing in a minority of true believers.
