Well, considering that we had 27 scholarship players sitting out today, I was pretty happy with what I saw.

With the first teams only playing about 20 plays, it was obvious that our defense had the upper hand. No shock there huh? Our defensive line made our makeshift offensive line look pretty bad.

Ainge started out pretty slow but made some nice passes to some young receivers. Bill Grimes and Josh Briscoe made the most of their chances and looked solid. Playing with his head and not his arm, Clausen picked up right where he left off in the Cotton Bowl. He is giving Ainge a run for his money, that's for sure.

Riggs had a couple of nice runs, but couldn't do much because of the lack of good linemen. However, Williams had some really nice runs. He showed that he has the speed to get around the corners and make something happen. People have been singing Foster's praise, but if Williams runs like he did today, he will likely be the number 2 guy.

Our secondary looked good at times and bad at others. Hefney had a nice pick for a touchdown.

I believe that Fulmer and company have found their punt returner in Inquoris Johnson. He just ran around like a chicken with his head cut off until he found an opening and then he was off to the races. He returned one for a TD and almost returned another. That was refreshing to say the least. :good:

All in all, it was a pretty good day. It was nice to be back at the stadium watching some Big Orange football. :)

Riggs and Yancey wanted to dance too much and would hit the hole.
Williams hit the hole and made the D pay.
Inquoris Johnson on punt returns can be summed up in one word --- ELECTRIFYING
The front 7 on defense is good and deep
The DB's once everyone is healthy will be good
The Center position needs work
the Punter needs work, 1 9 yard punt and 2 or 3 line drives of the 35 yard length. Looks good punting pre game but did not punt well over all.
Grimes can play at WR
Anderson is a LOAD, no one and I mean no one would take him on up high

I think Clausen did extremely well today. Ainge also started showing his stuff after his rusty start. Even Cooter threw a td pass. I think it'll be a tight race at qb come this fall between ainge and clausen ( and schaffer if he hasn't goofed up too bad).

How did Ainge's arm strength look? Did he have good velocity getting the ball to the outside?

About Ainge's development...

I think Ainge still has a lot of upside left in him. I was discussing with toddbond, he never really worked too much in high school, as he just got by more on his skill instead. It definitley worked here, but he got thrown into the college game with little time to prepare, and I doubt that he would have trained too intensively during the season. Ainge will only get better and better as he plays.

His arm strength looked good. When the team was warming up, I noticed that a lot of the WR's were having a hard time catching his short passes because of the zip he had on them.

And the 60 some yard TD pass to Grimes was right on the money.....Grimes looked great yesterday.

well I missed the whole game. 60-50, that is pretty high. Is that just how good our offense is?

No. Since we had so many players sitting the game out, they used a funky scoring system and played offense against defense.

Foster did not play due to a high ankle sprain.

The defense was limited by Fulmer on what they could do. I will say this if the defense wasn't limited then the offense would have been in trouble. As Fulmer said it was the best the Offense did all spring.
Neither Clausen nor Ainge played the 2nd half which was mostly back-ups. the 2nd half was 2 12 minute quarters and the clock only stopped on TO's.

The offense should be good once all the starters get back.
The defense had alot out and still looked like the best Defense Ut has had since 98
