Backups in Spring Practice

Merk has better wheels. His accuracy was limited because he had to change throwing mechanics. But it also has increased his arm strength. From what has been said, Merk has really improved the accuracy over the past 6-8 months.
After watching those highlights...looks like Halzle has worked his "magic" with Merk already.

Mac was much more natural than Jake in that spring "event". But he's also only been there for 4 months.

Yeah...we need a portal QB. Damn...

C'mon, y'all. Merk sat a year, like Nico, and still there was never any hint of a real QB competition nor any question that Nico was our starter.

All of the revisionist "Merk is ready and as good as Nico" talk is just trying to spin it. Merk wasn't challenging Nico in practice for starter reps and it was really not ever a question, apparently.

There was zero hint of "we've got a QB competition going here ...." and no amount of trying to create one will work.

Nico was better. Merk is completely unproven until we see him against Syracuse. It is what it is.

We lost our clear starter about 6 months before opening day. Let's just hope Merk matures quickly from here.

You know he will be put on a crash course now with everything QB related to this offense and throwing to the receivers all summer. I don't see this being a disaster next season at all.
