That line-1 1/2- is a little strange. Anyone else know what we’re walking into? I figured the line to be higher, so is something up? Is Wisconsin that good?

They return all 5 starters and add transfer AJ Storr. It's an early road game against an experienced opponent. Not surprising to see us as dogs if that ends up being the case, but I think it's a game we probably should win on paper. Wouldn't be totally shocked if we lost, though.

I wonder why they aren’t ranked? It just seems strange you have the number 9 ranked team and a unranked team, both with starters returning. We return all our starters and two transfers too. I guess I’m underselling home court. I do see problems for us inside, maybe that’s the reason.

It's early, too, so a lot of these lines don't hold up. If you pay attention, there is some easy money to be made this early. Not in a game like this, necessarily, but in a lot of these overmatched non-conference games, take the favorite and give up the points. Go look at some of the spreads and results of the top-25 teams who played Monday night, for example.

The TN-Wisconsin game is an example of one I'd stay away from at a near pick'em. Don't know enough about either team, so either side winning by 1 or winning by 10 shouldn't be a total shock.

Yeah, I’m right there with you. I did well on Monday’s game. That spread on the Wisconsin game has “ stay away” written all over it. I’m a big UT fan, and I’ll admit I have blinders on when it comes to UT, but I really was expecting the line to be 6-7, but at 1 1/2, I’m staying away or I may lay a small wager on UW- Vegas is really smart.

Wisconsin is a projected 7 seed by Linardi not that it means much. Just outside of the AP poll. They will be slight favorites at home.

Who is the slight favorite?

6-7??? Every analytical projection I’ve seen has it as a pick em’ or maybe 1pt either direction, have seen nothing even close to 6-7?

I think he meant that just at first glance, a top-10 team playing an unranked opponent on the road, he was expecting the line to be more slanted toward Tennessee. Not that he has actually seen -6 or 7 anywhere.

I’m with you, but that take still surprised me…he seemed to be suggesting the line from Vegas was a “trap”, but to me that line is exactly where I expected, and said that it would be.

Badgers are one of the most respectable programs in the country. Always been well coached and plays typical B1G physical game. The Kohl Center is overrated as far as best environments in the B1G but still a great place to play. Great early season test on the road!

Hey you guys made the National Championship game a few years back. You have a long standing tradition and successful program. I look forward to the competitive game coming up. I'm sure it will be very close.

Nationally, though, how many people will see a top-10 team as an underdog to an unranked team and think it's easy money? To the inexperienced, amateur bettor, this could be a trap.

You guys are no slouches either.

I tripped over the phrase "long-standing" a little - when I was growing up, Wisconsin was a half-century long bottom feeder. The highlight of my fandom in my youth was beating Magic and MSU on the last regular season game of the year on a halfcourt shot (worth 2 points at the time). That's me in the crowd in the pic :) Because MSU went on to claim the title, my young person's logic decided that UW was the real champion that year because we were the last team to defeat Sparty.

The change came in the early-mid 90s, really, and I'd agree that we've been pretty solid for 25 years now. But I don't take it for
granted - I know the dark ages.

How does Badger Land honestly feel about Greg Gard @Formerlybis ? Living in B1G land I see a lot of Badgers games and I just don't get there is a great fan support for Gard. He's definitely no Bo Ryan!

I know there is a faction who doesn't like him, but I am not one of them. Gard was a player for Ryan and then an assistant for many years. Bo didn't like to recruit, so Gard (and the other assistants) were mainly responsible for the players they brought in over the years.

As a head coach, Gard's had a couple of early exits from the NCAAs, two lesser seasons, and some recruiting misses that lend voice to the detractors. On the plus side, I think he has 3 B10 titles, including just two years ago - that year they were ousted in the round of 32 by Iowa St. in a game where Chucky Hepburn got injured in the first half and didn't return. The detractors still blamed him for that because we didn't have a good backup PG - to me, it was just unlucky. The tournament is always a bit of a crapshoot.

Is he not as good as Bo Ryan? Maybe true. However, you have to ask if there's a better fit than Gard for how Wisconsin is most likely to succeed (everyone says Tony Bennett, but he has a job). There's a pretty good and somewhat unique formula at UW, and ditching it for the shiny object would be a mistake.

I think you’d be a good influence on some of our posters if you stick around

I'm in Madison. Agreed there is a faction who are disenchanted with him. He is a good coach, but a view is that the program isn't recruiting at a high level. I admit I don't keep up that much with Badger Basketball, however. Great fans thick or thin.

Will be at Kohl sporting the orange tonight!

It would be pretty disappointing to drop our first "test" after all the hype we've heard the past couple weeks. This is an unranked team and a lot of people have us penciled as a final 4. Looking at their roster, they aren't particularly big down low. I honestly don't see us losing this one. If we were relying on young guys in their first road game I'd be nervous, but our guys should handle a road atmosphere as well as anyway.
