He does indeed but two things: 1. Stanford was playing very well before he became DC 2. Will Muschamp also has a great defensive mind but he's not so great on O and UF should've been better than they have been every year he's been there, even factoring in this past season where injuries did a number on them their all-around performance was sub-par given their talent level.

Ok, I lied about there just being two things... :)

Lot's of coaches are fantastic coordinators but awful HC's. Lots of coordinators go through two or more HC jobs before they finally get the hang of it and some never do get the hang of it. Being a good coordinator and good HC require very different skill sets.

I like Mason as he comes across as a genuine person and there's no doubt that defenses fielded by Stanford during his time as DC (er the two different DC-like titles he had anyway - Stanford had to be different on the coach's formal title thing I guess) there were pretty good at shutting down PAC teams and looked good in general but moving from DC to HC is big leap that is hit or miss and it's even more hit or miss during that first HC job.

It would seem that the SEC of our childhood has gone from a "Good ol' Boys" Club to a full scale Arms Race. I wonder if we have upgraded enough with CBJ to truly "rise to the Top" of an ever increasing summit ????

what?

this guy hasnt even coached a day as a HC yet


sure hes a good defensive mind but if you think he has the talent that stanford has to work with at VU then you are mistaken. Vandy also loses about 8 starters on defense

Rock33 wasn't talking about Vandy at all. He was talking about Butch climbing the ever increasing summit that is the SEC.

We're going to find out. The team is still very thin after the A-team, so I don't expect any world beating this season. Hopefully, the execution on the field will be much improved in CBJ's second year. He is bringing in a LOT of top talent. With respectable play on the field in '14, he should have a pretty good team by '15 and '16.

Seriously? Did you see what he did to Oregon 2 years in a row. Stanford doesn't exactly have bama talent. Damn good hire. Vandy must of ponied up big $$.

If you think UT has the talent and offensive coaching of Oregon has to work with then you are mistaken.
