Bama’s Sears

Travelling & the 3 second rule are the two violations have basically gone away in today's game. The lane violations have gotten as bad as travelling.

If a 30+ point game in a 20 point loss with almost all of the points coming when the game was already well decided and into garbage time, and a stat line that included 0 assists or rebounds from a 'lead guard' is considered a 'positive' game when evaluating POY, then there is something seriously wrong with the parameters of the award.

A game like DK had at Alabama, when he realized he was the focus of the defense and turned himself into a 'decoy' of sorts, using his gravity and passing to free up others in winning a huge game on the road, is to me far more indicative of a great player worthy of an award like that.

But maybe that's just me.
nah
Your supposition about DK's impact Saturday night is right-on

This… I mentioned it in the game thread. Using the Knecht charge as a standard, Sears would’ve fouled out half way through the first half.
In our game with SC, their big guy constantly lowered shoulder into UT defender to get space. Couldn’t believe it wasn’t called as offensive foul.

Your 100% correct about Sears getting favorable foul treatment.

I think your wrong on Knecht’s charge happening against Sears.

I think Dykes was searching for any reason to justify the call. It was just a bad call IMO.
I would have to look at the replay of the call. It May not have been Sears. Regardless of who it was, it doesn't get called against Sears.

Hey! Bama lost. That's all I care about. If we get the W then they can smooze about Sears all they like. If we play them again we will put Mashack on him and make him disappear.

Something else that bugs me is how many FTAs Sears gets despite how few drives he actually makes. Sears averages 7.5 2PT attempts per game, and takes 6.4 FTAs a game.

DK averages 9 2PT attempts per game, just 5.7 FTAs though. Just getting the same whistles as Sears DK would pick up another half a point or so per game.

Selected enforcement of the rules and lack of consistency is the biggest problem currently with officiating. It’s across the board in all sports.
I think there are very few Officials that shave points to cheat to get a certain score not really pulling for a team but an outcome but these are very rare. I like you would just like to see some consistency throughout the nation the way the game is called. I never hear anything about the organization getting together to hone their skills and get every official on the same page. It's a mixed bag every game you can tackle ppl some games and some games some of your stars get touch fouls in the first 2 minutes, very frustrating.

If the Vols win the SEC tonight, DK wins the POY.
I think he wins it anyway at this point unless he totally stinks up these last 2 games which I find highly unlikely. He has not had a single SEC game with less than 13 points and has shot under 40% only twice(37.5%). Funny enough it was 5-14 both times. He knocked off all the rust in pre-conference games and hasn't looked back. in fact, if you compare Coneference games he has vastly outperformed Sears.

Yup its pretty much sewn up after this game

I really think the difference between good officials and bad officials is consistency. On a much smaller scale as a comparison, think about a home plate umpire. The ump may have a low strike zone. As long as he is consistent with it the entire game the hitters and pitchers can adjust and it’s not a big deal. However, if the strike zone is constantly changing it’s very frustrating for players and fans.
