Bama and Saban and Sankey have ruined college football!!! What’s the point in watching and competing anymore. Same old crap every season Saban winning his 12th title at age 78. Boring!!!! Predicable!!!!

And the cost of coaching has increased 10X for everybody.

It's just fascinating, really.

If Saban was here instead of at Bama would your post be the same?

I don't think Saban would have had anywhere near the same success here or at any other university. Maybe 3-4 titles at best.

Only underscores the problem of having an effectively professional sport masquerading as an amateur sport. Saban's definitely destroyed cfb as it currently exists.

Agreed, that's why I think he would have won championships at UT also. Just not as many.
If he stayed at LSU, there is no doubt he would have won several more titles there, at least as many as he's won at Alabama. Hell, they won 2 more titles and played for another under two buffoons, and the only reason they didn't win 3 is because they had to face Saban in a title game after having already beaten him during the regular season.

The way the cookie crumbled to get Saban to Alabama (Brees going to New Orleans, some Bama booster leaking that they were about to hire Rich Rod which caused him to back out and for Bama to go to their second option) is one of the most fortunate twists of fate in sports history.

Saban is essentially like all of the other GOATs in sports..... You just sit back and watch it end on its own because there is nothing you can do.

There will never be another Saban or a coach that will run off that many titles in a career. I hate the guy with a passion, but I've also recognized the fact that Saban's run will end when he decides, not when someone else does.

He was just a little better than .500 at Michigan State. Don’t get me wrong, he made significant improvements at LSU and Bama but those schools already had storied histories with an abundance of 5 star recruits. He made great programs better but no way he would have won Nattys at average to above average programs as easily as he did at Bama. He put in the work at the front end but really hasn’t had to do much actual coaching in recent years. I don’t think his results would have been any better than CJH this year if he rad the coach, possibly not as good. Saban, Meyer and a few others made a name for themselves and then capitalized on moving to programs that already had a great legacy.

But he could recruit circles around Heupel.

Well that remains to be seen with CJH. Let’s see how he recruits his first few years. Bama is recruiting itself to a certain extent because they always win and Saban his built a program over 15 years. If CJH and Saban were to recruit for the same school and it was an average program without a winning history I think CJH would recruit just as well if not better. If it wasn’t a good team that didn’t win much, kids are going to favor the better personality with CJH vs a jerk like Saban. Saban recruits well even though kids don’t like him because he = wins, exposure and the NFL. It’s a trade off.

Saban’s dominance has hurt the game. College football imo was more enjoyable in the 70’s and 80’s and 90’s even though there were dynasties and great teams there was a degree of parity that any team could have a chance like BYU in 1984 of winning the national title. Now it’s pretty much just go ahead and give Bama the trophy every year in the preseason it’s pointless really we all know the eventual outcome before the season starts.

I think GOATs in general are overhyped and over glorified. We as a culture are obsessed with naming someone the best ever. There is some talent involved for sure but a lot of it is being at the right place at the right time and how the chips fall, ie Saban with Bama and Brady with New England.

Agree. You always had the blue bloods but they seemed to take turns more in those days and there was always healthy competition getting to the top. You also had sleeper teams like BYU in your example. It had really taken the fun out of cfb.

There just had to be cheating involved. I know all programs cheat but I think Bama is doing it a little more than others. One day they will be exposed. It’s all going to come out.

It’s brilliant business acumen on Saban’s part. He knows that if he dominates, the rest of the country will shell out $100M for mediocrity and that means Alabama will pay him $150M eventually.

Every championship that Saban wins, means that Georgia cannot win and will remain stuck at 1980.

A NC Georgia team is far far worse for UT than yet another Bama championship.
