Idiots are everywhere. Alabama has idiots just like Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee. This is sad, though. The die-hard extremes of Alabama's fan base screw it up for the rest of the Alabama fans.

Every season there are stories about crazy reactions to losses, which happen. Every program out there has those fans.

But there's only one team whose fans produce a few Updyke-level nutjobs seemingly every year.

It's a shame, to me, because I've met some really cool Alabama fans. I've also met a lot of bad Alabama fans. It makes me feel bad for the cool ones because they get associated with the Updykes of the fan base because of people like Harvey Updyke.

Unfortunately, that is true. I find it easier to live as a Bama fan in Nashville than living as a (arguably) rational Bama fan amongst the whackos in that state.

I second this. One of my best clients, who has turned into a very good friend, is a Bama guy. His whole family is die hard Bama. They are some of the nicest people you will meet.

In my experience, the bad ones are normally the ones who have absolutely no tie to the University. Most of those I know who do, are very good fans.

Given the right circumstances, fans of UT, Georgia, Florida, or LSU could or would probably do the same thing.

Given how the UT football program has been the last few years and some of the train wrecks that have occurred(ie Kiffin jumping ship out of nowhere) I wouldn't be surprised if someone around here hasn't done something just as stupid.

Hell, from the number of people on here, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason some nonbanned members aren't active any more is because they got drunk and angry after a loss and ended up wrapping their car around a tree or something.
