Here is the list:

Team Pass D Rating National Rank
VTI 93.85 3
Tamu 138.48 92
CSU 156.83 115
Ole Miss 129.42 67
Georgia St 150.61 111
Ky 149.93 110
Arkansas 141.82 99

It's amazing...a good AD would have to work hard to try and assemble such a sorry group of pass defense ineptitude. It's ridiculous.

What's interesting is how bammer has done against each of these teams. In the list above, there are 5 horribly bad pass D's, one average one (Ole Miss) and one that is really good (VTI). What's really interesting to me is that AJ McCarron's stats were good, very good, in all the above games with the notable exception of VTI and Ole Miss. (The only two pass D's worth a dam that he has faced!)

Against VTI, his passer rating was 98 vs. them allowing a 94 on average...only a very modest improvement. While they scored 35 on VTI, two TDs were kick returns, one was an int return and then there was one run and one pass TD. In other words, the offense only scored 14.

Against Ole Miss, bammer had it's lowest score of the season at 25, with only a rushing TD and NO PASS TDs. Bammer's QB rating? 119...11 points below what Ole Miss allows at 130. In other words, AJ didn't even do as well as the rest of Ole Miss' competition.

So...what is our pass D rating? 116. :) We will be, by a comfortable margin, the second best pass D that AJ has faced. Based on his performance against Ole MIss and VTI, he is going to struggle a bit.

I'm definitely not predicting we win based on the above stats, but they do encourage me. For one, I think it's likely that AJ throws a pick or even two against our rapidly developing pass D, and for the remote chance of an upset to happen, we need turnovers. Two....AJ is gonna know he's in a game....it will not be one of his better one's this year, IMO.

Something messed up with the formatting...for clarity, here are the ratings and ranks separately:

Team Pass Efficiency D Rating
VTI 93.85
Tamu 138.48
CSU 156.83
Ole Miss 129.42
Georgia St 150.61
Ky 149.93
Arkansas 141.82

Team Pass Efficiency D National Rank
VTI 3
Tamu 92
CSU 115
Ole Miss 67
Georgia St 111
Ky 110
Arkansas 99

While I am at it...Reader's Digest Summary!

1. AJ has not faced very many good pass Ds.
2. He stuggled quite a bit vs. the two he did face - Ole Miss and VTI.
3. Our pass D is better than any above save VTI
4. Thus he is likely to have a bad game vs. us!

Again, this does not win the game for us, but it does open the door a bit wider. IMO.

Pretty deft to dog their defenses but slip in that ours won't even be the best they've faced. Team117 is opportunistic in all 3 phases as of late. They'll get their chances and I'm just hoping the capitalize.
Regarding Mccaron I believe he's the 4th best QB we've faced. He's a winner on a winning team and has some poise but skill wise Murray, Mariota, and Shaw are better.

Now, if 117 can transfer what's on paper to the field.

Alabama is a great team. Great running game, great defense...

I'll give credit to different players and units and coaches all day.

But AJ McCarron is the most overrated QB. His "drive" against LSU was garbage praise.

McCarron is a better than Shaw...

If I have a team devoid of playmakers I'll take shaw all day and twice on Sunday. Dude is tough and moves the chains on his own. McCarron has the benefit of being on the most stacked team in the nation.

No doubt Shaw is tough, maybe the toughest player in CFB...but as a pure QB,
I'll take McCarron...he has stepped up big when Bama has needed him to...he manages the game until they can't afford to rely on the running game alone...

don't think we want that. They outrecruit us and out-tallent us big time on paper.

I hope we can get some pass rush on AJMcCarron. If we do, I think he might struggle some, although let's not forget they do have some good WRs. IIRC, Cooper tore us up last year. Also Jones is good and White and Norwood can put up stats.

I was referring to what the OP put up.

I don't care about the rankings thus far because if team117 continues to progress on D as they have in the last 2 games we can slow down Bama. Shaw, Davis, and Clowney were good warmups to the talent leap we are about to face.

Shaw on Bama's roster would be the only way to make that comparison. If Bama had a mobile QB they'd be tossing up 70 like OR.

McCarron is the most overrated, over talked about quarterback in the country IMO. Pretty easy to put up his kind of numbers with their rushing attack and skill players. I can't wait for Vereen to make him taste grass like Les Miles.

What always gets me about Bammer QBs is they just never seem flashy or good. All the way back to Jay Barker...it used to frustrate me to no end to watch him play. I'd yell "He's not good!", but he got the job done. I guess winning is contagious, and some players are leaders, not QBs, and when they need to they step up and win. I think of McCarron the same way. I watch him play, and scratch my head. He just ain't that good. But by God he wins! I hope we are able to put pressure on him and get him off his game...but don't give HIM a chance to win it, or he will.

Key word....last year. :)

One thing I can almost certainly say...there aren't gonna be any wide open WRs standing in the end zone like last year! That was freaking embarassing.

Two rings already and another he got for watching from the sidelines. AJ is going for number four. I don't give a crap if he can play or not. This game will be decided on the scoreboard.

Furthermore, AJ's numbers would be more gaudy if he played full games. Many times, he's watching the subs clean up.

What I want to know is how many of you will be back on here admitting you were wrong if he puts up 300 plus yards? Probably not one. And how many of you would take him over Worley? If I was a Tennessee fan you better believe I'd rather have AJ at the helm.

Talk is cheap, so talk now. You don't have much longer. Meanwhile, the clock ticks on. 2558 days since your team beat Bama. We'll tack another 365 days after Saturday.

Yeah AJ is way overrated, I mean all he has done is win 2 national titles and be one of the most efficient QBs in the country. I would take AJ in the NFL draft over any other QB coming out this year.
