Bama was NOT the best team in the SEC this year.

Being a Dawg I’m curious if you think FSU or Bama should e been in (or someone else left out and both in). Thoughts?
They obviously should have put UGA in. Next question. /s

I lean FSU as an undefeated conference champion.

The most deserving teams are Michigan, Washington, FSU, and Texas. I think the best four are Michigan, then some combination of Bama/Texas/UGA/Washington. I can’t complain about the committee picking the three conference champs out of that group, even though I believe UGA would be favored against all of them.

I just don’t know how you leave FSU out as an undefeated P5 conference champion and let in a team that lost a regular season game. UGA has an old man’s 3-beers-on-the-front-porch argument to be included, but FSU got robbed, screwed, and cheated.

I also think it’s crap that the committee dropped teams so far at the end because it shows that they were just making it up as they went. Winning against Louisville is not a cause for dropping FSU out of the top 4, and a 3 point loss to playoff-worthy Bama shouldn’t drop a team 5 spots.

This was the worst Alabama team since Saban’s first year. The record was not indicative of their performance. This team legitimately should have had at least 3 losses, probably 4, on the season. Lucky is an accurate word to describe them. This is also the third consecutive season Saban has ended with 2 losses. First time that has happened to him personally since 2000-2002, his first three years at LSU.

The inconsistency of the committee is what I don’t like. 4 best, ok where’s UGA? Most deserving (this is what they’ve typically done), ok where’s FSU? That’s what I don’t like.

Uh oh. We’re agreeing with each other. That probably means the world is about to end.
I agree too and anyone with half a brain should.

The 4 best and 4 most deserving did not get in, and the rankings drop at the end for FSU and UGA literally make no sense. The committee wanted 4 specific teams and that’s what happened. I really do wonder why the games are even played if results don’t matter in the end.

Bama beat UGA so no second guessing from me. Gotta tip the cap. There ain’t no arguing about better; you are what the scoreboard says you are.

That said, Bama played its best game against UGA and UGA played one of its worst against Bama. Again, credit to the other guys for getting UGA off its game. But I think UGA would win more half if the two teams played 10 times given that UGA meaningfully out gained Bama both in total and on a per-play basis. I’d also take UGA against Washington and probably Texas.

But Michigan? I think UGA’s passing scheme could make some trouble in the middle of that defense, but the Michigan DL is a problem. I also like Michigan’s passing game design a lot, and Corum is a dude. UGA probably has some mismatches it could exploit (especially if we imagine a healthy Bowers) but so does Michigan—looking at UGA’s 2 true freshman ILBs in particular. UGA taking Michigan to overtime like Bama would seem a fair prediction, even if my fan lenses would want to lean UGA’s way a little.
I’d take UGA against Texas, but Washington would probably light y’all up like a Christmas tree.

Unlikely UGA beats Michigan. Michigan's defense is legit. Probably better than Bama's (certainly gave up less points to Bama than UGA did). And quite easily their offense is better than Bama's.

UGA nearly lost to Auburn folks. This isn't the same UGA team as year's past. Outside of Bowers, they really lacked playmakers offensively. And defensively they got exposed several times.
UGA would have beaten Michigan by 2-3 TDs

No way to tell, but Washington hasn’t really cooked anybody this year—they win (which obviously matters the most!) but they win close. I like UGA’s secondary against Washington, at least in avoiding big plays and yards after the catch.

On the other side, I don’t see how Washington would matchup against UGA well at all. It might be a track meet, but UGA is better on defense, better on rushing offense, and more efficient in the pass game. Washington has the more explosive passing offense, but UGA is one of the best in the country at preventing explosive pass plays.

Washington obviously could win, and the team with the most dynamic QB is always in it, but I’d bet UGA. And I’m not biased at all, obviously.

His team last year was worse. They would have likely lost 5 games without Bryce Young. This year and last year have been his worst teams, excluding his first season.

Having seen and played many of the top teams this year I put

1) UW
2/3) Oregon/UGA
4) Texas

Not a knock against the teams in the playoff. You can't do "best" when you've lost head to head twice - you have to respect deserving in a case like that. There is no uncertainty except among Quooks on who the better team is there

That being said, the best team doesn't always win. Bama had their day against UGA which is a real shame since I'd love to have beaten Michigan in the Rose Bowl before facing off against UGA in a hard game. The only bright side is it made the path to winning it all 10x easier for Washington.

Bowl games support this argument.

Missouri shut down Ohio State
Ole Miss blew out Penn State
Tennessee trashed Iowa

B1G looked terrible but Alabama lost to the garbage league. Should have put Missouri, Ole Miss, or Georgia against Michigan.

And league play doesn’t support it. Georgia beat Mizzou and Ole Miss. Bama beat Ole Miss and Georgia.

Bama also almost lost to Auburn, was actually far closer. Only some 3rd and Chavis style D by Auburn won Bama that game. Bama also struggled with UCF, and even had a loss in the regular season.

the transitive property sucks in football. we beat Iowa worse than Michigan did, does that mean we are better than Michigan?
