I am an Alabama fan and I've never considered myself to be scum of the earth, but I'm sure a few others have. The first college football game that I ever attended was Bear Bryant's last game and I've been there ever since. I went to school at Ole Miss for a while, once skipped homecoming to watch AL play on TV (try explaining that to your date!). I swore that I would never root for TN in any sport but when KY basketball hired Satan for head coach, I started watching Bruce Pearl's Vol teams and fell in love with what those teams were in the first few years. When they had to fire him, I thought I might move on too, but then they hired Cuonzo, who was another of my favorite coaches, so I decided to stick with the Vols. I always root for SEC teams when they play other conferences and in bowl games (I do find it hard to root for Florida, but sometimes I bite the bullet). When the Vols fired Kiffin, I found myself watching with interest and when the Vols hired Dooley, I found myself rooting for him to make good. SEC pedigree, nice guy, seemed to want to do the right things, struggling program trying to right itself. The same with Miss. State when they hired Sylvester Groom. I wanted him to make good, not because he was black, but because I thought he was a great football coach who did things the right way. I have been a gypsy for most of my life, now settled down in TN and I love SEC sports. Baseball, Football, Basketball (Men's and Women's). I don't ever run down another school's fans. I admire those of you who "bleed Orange", I have that kind of loyalty to the Cardinals in baseball, but it is possible to be a fan of the conference. Frankly, the SEC is just like watching the best soap opera of all time combined with a train wreck. I hope TN makes a great hire for the new head coach and returns to football greatness. As Reggie Jackson once said, "They don't boo nobodies".
