Bang Shootie conversation

So we took out my son's new 22LR Yesterday.
Got a CZ 457 Varmint, with one of the most beautiful walnut stocks I have ever seen, and the very zeroed PA SLX 1-6x24 SFP Scope Gen 3, with a 22 ACSS ret. this might be the finest 22lr I have ever shot, and we had so much fun yesterday at Dead Zero on their new Rimfire area. Filled with both paper targets, and a bunch of steel gophers at various ranges. After shooting lasers from 50-100 yds, My son spied a man Silhoute target we hadn't noticed yet at well over 200 (actually turned out to be 285 per the guy at the clubhouse). My son took a shot no ding, I said, son, that is WAY WAY out there, there is no way your......DING! Okay well I was corrected. He also had the biggest **** eating grin afterwards. (I'll never hear the end of it) He had to hold the target at the bottom of scope below reticle, but yeah. It was like him making a 1,000 yard hit on my .243 700 M40A3 clone, second try. I can't recommend this rifle enough, for the money it's competing with rediculous 2-3k match 22LR in terms of accuracy, thick bull barrel and just beauftul turkish walnut with Czech craftmanship, and light enough for hunting. It was a huge upgrade from his first little 22LR cadet trainer, (cheap italian starter rifle prob sold for $30-50 when it came out in the 60s)

What we saw, their new rimfire area seperate from rifle range, and perfect place to take your kid. Away from erebody blasting 30 cal in your ears. Was a gorgeous day.

thumbnail_IMG_1800.jpgPerspective

At 50 Even my bad eyes could could make a smile face on the human silhouette, and I managed a 2 inch group of 5 at 100, I am sure rifle is capable of better but I wasn't. We most enjoyed the various metal groundhogs they have set up at various ranges 40,50,60,70,100, 110 etc. There's also some .5" and 1" spinners on the left. I was able to spin them 70% of the time, but My eyes are not as good for such a small target even with 6x mag.

Boy was happy and we both had grins....enjoyed it more then the rifle range to be honest. A lot easier on the wallet as well.

Sadly I don't think PA makes the 22ACSS anymore. I could be wrong and their just sold out, I had to find a NOS version of it....this is the perfect 22LR reticle for plinking and varmint hunting. Very easy to calc range quickly. ACSS is one of my fav rets for that reason. It's ALOT harder to make out range reticle on the 22 though vs 5.56. I wish the ret was brighter in direct sunlight. (Range finder does NOT light up, and even on 11 (yes they made an 11 on brightness) you can barely see the red lit reticle at midday sun...it's really only useful for morning and dusk, but the ret is sharp enough you don't need it really at normal 22lr ranges, and plenty bright in the woods.

RIDICULOUSLY good deal.

So I bit.

mac-5-full-size-pistol-package (2).png

Did ffl at range, so against better judgement I tried a few rounds before taking home for thurough once over and cleaning.

Shoots like a laser, and felt ver good, but then after 10 rounds or so FTF.......fixed it, hoped it was a one off and breaking it in issue....but happened 4 more times in two diff mags. Stopped shooting until I could get it home and look closer....but pretty sure I know issue. Hoping I can make all adjustments myself and don't have to do an RMA.

tested Bolt gap, as that's an issue with some of thse that is known. Technically it's gap is slightly over spec...but the more it's used the more that will tighten up. On a brand new firearm not really worried we're talking under 0.05mm off I'd been more concerned if it was under rather then over and it would have gone back immediately. (you can fix bolt gap yourself, but it's not cheap as you likely will need to replace rollers etc)

AS for FTF different issue. Main culprit I believe is a combo of trigger group alignment, and ejector, probably will replace ejector with H&K part, as there is a significant improvement and i think that was actually the issue. Fit and finish is what you pay most for so probably will need to polish feed ramp etc. I exasperated it likely with using truncated conical target ammo. Probably should just be using straight up FMJ or +p to break in. I know this doesn't sound like an endorsement, but it actually is. Many of these are shipping already working like sewing machines, and have very good reviews, so I believe this will be a minor issue.

As strange as it all sounds I'm kinda happy about all this. as this is part of hobby i like most; tinkering, and I know I have the ability to most likely correct. The importer is in Knoxville if I get in a real jam. Or parts cost too much. I'll have them take a look or swap out. I don't think MAC has best RMA policy but the importer has a good rep. The price point at about 1k is one where I won't feel bad tinkering with it. I always knew I'd probably replace parts with German/Swiss stuff when able anyway. Just know what you may be in for.....if you're wanting rock solid dependable out of the box save up for the actual HK SP5, Or regardless of what the tacticool kids say the sub2k from kel tec is rock solid and can use glock mags, and is cheaper then most shotguns. (If you want a 9mm carbine that just works) However, if you like to work on your guns and basically start with a 1 for 1 build this is one hell of a deal, at about 1/3 the cost. This an ultimate 70-80's kid range toy.

If I haven't fixed issues within a month or so I may sing a different tune. But man I'm enjoying my Iranian embassy 1980 nostalgia.... at a price that is still hobby. I can't begin to say how good it does feel shooting and unlike the AP5 I think this one will pretty much accept all H&K upgrades.

Hopefully this will be me in a few weeks after I tinker.

I'll take my SP5 all day every day over a Turkish knockoff*. The only Turkish brand I would consider (and own) in a Canik

However, if it works for you great.

*I'd take a CA AP-5 over the MAC if I was going for a "clone"

Took It apart for full run down.

1) PArts are really like 1 for 1 looks identical to H&K....much more then the century arms version. Probably not to same quality, but I am willing to bet all H&K will be interchangable.

2) Figured out quickly what is likely issue, I had looked inside before shooting and saw reciever and carrier had some oil, and I figured the gun had been likely oiled and test fired before shipping. (I should know better, and taken it home before shooting) They may have test fired it once...but when I took it part carrier rails and inside rails were BONE dry. Worse a pin on carrier is sticking out and likely digging into side rail I think it's called the bolt clamping pin?, I think I can just tap it, but might shoot down to GT and get replacement pin.

I have seen my share of actual HK and CA......and I will take this over Century any day.....this is nearly spot on, and likely had just been properly oiled and pin issue noticed would not have had an issue. For the price diff between MAC and CA, I can get an actual HK carrier-reciever, pin etc The whole reason I got this was as a project, and the rediculously low price.....I never would have paid 1.6-1.7 for a century arms, that also will often NOT take H&K parts. I agree though that HK obviously is best bet for depend on it for your life. But it was the 1k price tag and 4 mags plus a folding brace that I can literally not tell apart from a B&T brace without markings.

My honest opinion for sheet metal guns all the others have always been over priced.

I just wanted to add to this thought....when I say trust with my life I mean in terms of MP5 line. Because to be honest I would not choose ANY MP5 including original H&K to trust with my life at this point. It's an antiquated platform at this point. As someone said the MPX is the Prom Queen, and the MP5 is her milf mom. She might even be sexier but you wouldn't start a family with her. Working on an MP5 is fun and brings back memories, and childhood fantasies....But To be honest for purely best bang for the buck the Kel-tec sub2ks are going rediculously cheap now used, esp gen 1 and gen 2. they will out shoot and be more dependable then the best MP5. Why? More simple basic design, less complexity, less parts to fail and go wrong. Tacticool fudds will make fun sure, but it won't fail you. Most people who jump on mp5's learn the hardway after 500 rounds and not understanding the high level of maintenance required, and then wonder why their extractor flew off and is lost. On the higher end but still half the price of an MP5, Sig MPX beats the MP5 platform in every way. Tougher, more reliable, faster reloads, easier to maintain, and much more dependable. So really the Mp5 regardless who makes it, or what quality, doesn't meet either best budget 9mm carbine, or professional 9mm carbine.

But she's still a dead sexy milf, that is hard to say no to, even though you know she'll wreck your world, your budget, and likely go click when you need her most.

Lots of Lulz in here

My guy, I carried an MP5 in combat.

Kel-Tec?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. STFU and GTFO. That's LITERALLY the last gun I'd grab out of my safe (not that I don't like it)

I get it, you don't want to spend the coin. No big deal. Just admit it

The MP5 is one of the most widely used submachine guns in the world, having been adopted by over forty nations and numerous militaries, police forces, intelligence agencies, security organizations, paramilitaries, and non-state actors.
