I resolved to learn a couple of new things this year, so I picked up a nice banjo. I have the Scruggs book and have watched some online lessons, was just wondering if anyone has experience with stuff that would be helpful.

I'm proficient on the guitar and piano, so theory isn't an issue. Thus far, I just need repetition to train my thumb to roll to the fifth string high note. I have a tutor/ instructor to guide me, as well.

I would encourage you to take a look at Noam Pikelny's lessons on Artists works. A big difference is the more you work from Scrugg's book, the more you train your fingers (picking hand) to attack specific strings. An example would be (Scrugg's book) your middle finger just picks the first string whereas modern players makes it available to the other strings as well. Noam's lessons train the player to use whatever finger is available.

Cool, I'll check that out. I have worked on some links from modern music that employ more varied finger picking (Mumford, old crow, Coldplay, ed sheeran)

Hang in there and accomplish another musical instrument!
I abandoned that in my youth and have regrated it ever since.
