Banks was never interviewed by Miami or Clemson; which you ask permission for if you are really interested. So I'm afraid I'd have to disagree with you UNKNOWN. That said, I'm very happy that you are vibrant again!

A great coaching friend once told me this: great players make great coaches. We have a mix of good, really good, and a great players sometimes sprinkled in there. So, when you look at what Banks has produced with that talent, he has done well. Coaches at the FBS level are so good that if you have a mismatch, it will get exposed. It has happened to us a few times.
Keeping continuity while building competition on the roster is huge. We have been short on scholarships and plugging holes through the portal. Keeping Banks lets us build up. I admit I hate seeing our LBs mismatched in coverage repeatedly and watching OSU run Smash/ Slot fade concepts for days, but they did it to everyone which should tell ya something.

This- we need more talent @ LB and DBs. LB hurt us this yr and will continue until we can recruit and develop elite talent. I’m not sure who we recruited in 2025 but confident we will get the pieces.

I don't agree at all. What did the UT D against the proven offenses it played, especially PROVEN QBs that threw a lot of TDs? Yes, the D has improved. But, Banks has DEFINITELY NOT PROVEN ANYTHING where it counts (KEEPING PASSING TEAMS FROM THROWING ALL OVER UT MOST OF THE TIME) that he deserves TOP 5 DC MONEY!!!



UT only BEAT ONE TEAM with who had a QB ranked 38th or higher in PASSING TDs, first number is ranking, last number is TDs thrown for the season (NC ST QB not ranked, probably not in top 200 of all FBS QBs)!

Milroe threw 5 TDs and 9 INTs his last 8 games starting with USC before the UT game! Milroe didn't prove squat this year. Had Lagway for UF played the whole game vs UT. UT probably loses that game! As a UT fan, I will always take a win vs UGA, UF, and Bama no matter the circumstance. But, let's not act like UF nor Bama were world beaters this year! UT had NO QUALITY WINS in 2024! The O played horribly a lot. But, the D wasn't the stud D a lot of people who are wearing orange tinted glasses think they were!!!

UT beat ONE TEAM that had a scoring offense in the top 60 for 2024, first number is offensive ranking for the season, last is average pts per game!

AU, TX, LSU, MISS, UGA, and OSU had a QB with those stats in 2024! UT lost to the 2 of the 6 they played. My money says UT loses at least 5 of the 6!!!

Let's also not forget this horrible stat! Banks should have been fired after this game! I don't care about the rumor of the locker room being divded either! YOU DON'T EVER LET THIS HAPPEN AS A DC of a TOP 5 TEAM!!!

So you’re not happy about the NIL, DC, QB and most every other aspect of the program even though we’re better now than we’ve been in two plus decades? Are you sure you’re really a vol fan? Really?

That is the most ridiculous statement possible. Thats like saying you sold less records than Drake or Kenny Chesney so you suck. We went platinum, dude. How we did against easily 2 of the best teams in the country 2 of 133 is not a a measure of how good or bad we were. If you want to really get at it. Neither of those teams had their best game against us. OSU put up points against EVERYONE they played except for Michigan. 42-17 is really bad and looks really bad until you put it in context.

They scored 41 against Oregon and even in their loss to them scored 31. Like it or not OSU was a juggernaut this year. That roster is nuts Do they even have a single position without a future NFLer at other than TE?

UGA vs UT is a headcase game. Much like Bama/Auburn. OSU/MIchigan. Bama/LSU, UT/Bama, Oregon/Oregon State, Florida/Georgia, UCLA/USC, FLirida schools vs each other and Army Navy. The winner of these games is not always the best team on the field because the game is about a lot more. Florida State got stomped by Miami and Florida, but given the QB they threw out there those 2 games it should have been a lot worse. As a fan, it's hard to do, but you have to realize some games are gonna be aberrations. I will give a perfect example and get a lot of hate for it. But put a different Jersey on Bama in 2022 and 2024 let them be say Lousiville with the same roster and coaches and we lose both those games. Those UT teams went on that field with copious amounts of real animosity. Those crowds had a different kind of energy.

The OSU playoff game at their house? Trust me, the failed takeover played a bigger part in the score than the talent on the teams. Motivation plays a big factor. Our team, rightfully, was happier to be in the playoffs than most fans might expect. They walked into the shoe not knowing what to expect. They are used to playing in front of big crowds, but that crowd was something else.. they were pissed. That OSU team didn't go into the season hoping for a natty. It was their reason for existence. As a fan you can say UT should have been the same way but if they were, it would have been based on delusion. Player for player name a stronger roster in college football in 2024? The only team that would come close would be.. oh damn UGA. Ohio State has been in legit playoff contention for the last 2 decades. We are just getting back there. Like it or not its true.

Elite defenses aren’t going to let even juggernaut offenses name the score on them. Our defense was not elite. It was good, but it wasn’t elite.

Trying to argue that “the winner of the Tennessee-Georgia game is not always the best team on the field” when they have absolutely destroyed us for 8 years and running and had the better team each and every time is also a hilarious thing for a person to say.

Yes, as a UT alum, I am happy with the DIRECTION of most sports including football and support the Vols win or lose!

By the way, I love Barnes and wouldn't trade him for ANY other HC. Even though, he can't get over the hump with the FF! Hopefully, he wins a NC before he retires which probably isn't too far from now!

Not when you play two offenses in the top 60 and lose to both as well as not beat a QB ranked inside the top 37 based on number of TDS thrown! It is easy to LOOK ELITE when your D plays several cupcakes or teams with low statistics offensively! Who exactly did UT beat that made the D be ELITE? Hell, even Vandy beat Bama this year! Florida was average at best when UT won! Beck and Bobo made Banks look like a JUCO DC!!!

If you want “UT to spend more NIL” to bring championships, you’d better line up some more deep pocket donors. That’s where we have a gap versus Texas, Ohio St, Oregon etc. and I’m not sure we can get to that level. Close but not that big. The university currently has nothing to do with controlling NIL funds. Now when/if revenue sharing takes hold or they officially become employees, that’s a different animal.

The truth is we played a cake schedule when you look back at the end of the season. We wouldn’t have beaten Florida if we played them 4 weeks later. Our defense didn’t do anything spectacular against the decent teams we played, which weren’t many.

That’s so true and they do the same thing with Barnes in basketball. When he leaves we won’t see the second weekend of the NCAAT again for at least a decade. Book it.

Banks has proven he deserves his salary because we have brought in a good defensive staff as wellmas we have improved every year defensively since he has arrived.

Agree here. Without Garner Banks looks even more mediocre. Banks cannot game scheme he cannot adjust in games which is why he is not that good. Also he is safety coach that is his specialty and his position he also coaches how has our safeties been? Mediocre is what I’m sure most will say if truthful so again I ask why? I truly don’t think worth the money. Wish him all the best while he’s here just think he is getting credit that he truly hasn’t earned with our Garner
