Barbara Bush - Mormons Wild People?

I wonder, do we have any Mormons posting at the Nation?

For reasons that remain unexplained to my satisfaction, there were a significant number of Mormons living in in my hometown when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s. They have a temple/tabernacle in Franklin which is supposed to be a significant deal.

asked if voters should be wary of Romney being a Mormon, the former president's wife, Barbara, said "not at all," noting there are "wild people" in many religions.

"I mean it was in 1897 that bigamy was outlawed in that church," she said. "You know we have a lot of Christian wild people too, and a lot of Jewish wild people and a lot of Muslim wild people. The Mormon religion takes care of its own, they don't have people on welfare.

I guess if you really want to engage in a pointless semantic exercise, Barbara could have been calling Romney "wild".

I would imagine that most Mormons would take offense at not being included in the Christain categorization.....or at least that seemed like what she was saying

Yeah, the name of our church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It's hard to believe that many people don't consider us Christian.

The same people also don't consider Catholics to be Christians...so, don't feel all that bad.

However, whereas Catholics, Anglicans, the Orthodox Church, and Protestants believe in the Trinity (one being, 3 parts), Mormons believe in a trinity (3 seperate beings, one common voice/message/meaning.)

Under the Banner of Heaven is a worthless book. It tries to indict the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints do to flaws in our own government legislation (hence, the author's preoccupation with welfare for single mothers.)

Thanks NYT book review man. Actually it was a very good book. I didn't notice it tried to indict the LDS, it gave some facts, if those facts seem to not be to your liking that is your choice. Yes, sorry the US government is not into promoting the rape of children as practiced by the FLDS.

Yeah, true... that's one of the main differences, but the LDS church still accepts Jesus Christ as Savior of the world.

Interesting lack of indictment...

Notice you highlighted one part with "LDS" and another with "FLDS". I would suspect there is a major differrence in the 2 groups.

The FLDS is the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They aren't affiliated with the LDS church.
