Notice you highlighted one part with "LDS" and another with "FLDS". I would suspect there is a major differrence in the 2 groups.
Of course there is a major difference. Just as their is a major difference between most Southern Baptist Churches and Westboro Baptist Church.

However, in Under the Banner of Heaven, as well as your post, the author tries to blur that major difference, basically stating that becoming a member of the FLDS is a very natural movement for those who are devout members of the CoJCoLDS.

Don't forget the 'nutty Catholic' Malachy who said the next pope is the end and the shepherd of the flock into many tribulations. I think many thoughts of the Pope being the antichrist come from that.

Been a while since I read the book but I don't remember it stating that is was a very natural movement for devout members to become FLDS members. Of course it would probably take a devout member of any religion to become a fundamentalist of that religion. That does not necessarily mean devout practicioners become fanatics.

Barbara Bush is one of those crazy old racist southern women, she doesn't have the right to be calling anyone anything.
