Barkley making decision

If I could potentially be a top five pick in the NFL Draft I'd leave in a heart beat. What do you do if you come back and have a terrible season or suffer a bad injury? You're screwed.

Scuttlebutt is that he's staying. Thumbing his nose right in the face of Matt Leinart's ghost, I guess.

No idea what his family's financial situation is. If they're already well off, then given the reduced NFL rookie contracts, it's not quite the slam dunk it used to be. If he comes back, he's immediately the favorite to win the Heisman, a national championship, and be the overall #1 pick next year.

If he stays then they will be a top 5 team next year competing for the national title. I think their other top pro prospect is staying too if Barkley does.

I heard an interview with him on the radio a couple weeks ago. His family is financially secure.

Also, holding a press conference seems like a strong indication that you've chosen to come back. If you're going early, you tell a few reporters and that's it.

If he stays hope it works out for him. If your a top five/ten talent you go and take the money no questions asked. You can always come back to school but if you get hurt, screw up, or suck you can't ever get back being drafted that high.

Not to steal Barkleys buzz, but I would just like to make an official announcement to say that I will be returning to The University of Tennessee for my senior year to finish my degree. It was a tough choice, but given that I'm not an athlete and need my degree to get a job it was the necessary decision.

rookie salary cap would incline me to stay a bit more as opposed to previous draft years, however can understand both arguments
