Seeing so many of the other top coaches in the country saying close to the same things really speaks volume to Barnes. Like a lot of them said, beyond the 800 wins. It's the way he has done it, doing it the right way. Elevating every program higher. And most importantly the way he has never been afraid to talk about his faith. And the way he has changed a lot of players lives for the better. We as fans definitely need to appreciate what Barnes has done.

We are incredibly blessed to have this good man as our coach.
<== this! Let’s hope we keep it up as a team, but regardless, this was one of Tennessee’s best hires since Bruce Pearl. Jury is still out on whether or not it was even a better hire. I think best hires in basketball/football since I have been alive are Summit, Fulmer, Pearl, Barnes and Heupel as it stands. We could see both Barnes and Heupel push for the top 3 before it’s all said and done.

I loved Bruce. He resurrected a dormant program. But the Barnes hire was much better after the embarrassment Pearl started and Tyndall finished.

How in the world does the FHAR Barnes crowd still exist?

I agree with you. I am simply referring to performance, albeit Barnes has the SEC tournament championship that evaded Bruce. I like Barnes better as a hire. You won’t find him at lake parties posing for photos with college students in bikinis online. That’s not really a dig at Pearl and I am not one to judge things like that too harshly, it’s just a testament to Barnes that he is a class act.I was elated when we landed him.

Nope. The jury isn't out on that matter. I liked Bruce, but he lived up to his reputation as a SNAKE

Barnes could potentially win over 900 games before he calls it quits.

I, too, love this about Rick. It seems we went through a period were public figures includes sports were hesitate to talk about their faith. BUT clearly that has changed seemingly in the last 3-4 years. For those of us who know scripture, WE ARE COMMANDED TO TALK ABOUT OUR FAITH and Rick lives it out in an appealing, delightful way. I didn't know until today about the podcast by Jimmy Dykes and Chris Burke (VFL) which discusses sports but mainly faith in sports. Its named something like "COACH ME UP". I look forward to listening. I've told Rick this in person before...Thanks, Rick, for coming to our basketball program and developing young men!

I don’t THINK he coaches 5 more years. Boy, do I hope I’m wrong about that though.

Sports Source panel was discussing Barnes's and Pearl's futures on today's show and they said that Barnes hopes to hand the program off to someone in his coaching tree like Lanier or English while Pearl wants his son to succeed him at Auburn.

Auburn hiring pearl would be hilarious. He’d set back all the progress his father made there.

By the time this season is over, Barnes, Calipari and Bill Self will all be on the edge of the top 10 in total wins by coaches at the top Division 1 basketball schools of all time.
Barnes joins that elite club unless he retires. He could possibly get in the top 5 of all time by coaching 3-5 more seasons. The names on that top five list are staggering.
The guy is a legend.

Jury out? He’s the best hire UT has made in the major sports in last 25 years And maybe longer!
