Barnes: 800 career wins

I agree with you. I am simply referring to performance, albeit Barnes has the SEC tournament championship that evaded Bruce. I like Barnes better as a hire. You won’t find him at lake parties posing for photos with college students in bikinis online. That’s not really a dig at Pearl and I am not one to judge things like that too harshly, it’s just a testament to Barnes that he is a class act.I was elated when we landed him.
Pearl is a very good coach, program builder, entertainer and motivator and there is no doubt about it. Barnes is a gentleman with class, a developer of a program that can endure, develops young men and will be in the Hall of Fame.

Pearl shouldn't be anywhere near it, and I don't care how many wins or championships he earns in the years ahead. Already at 660+ wins. We all know the issues prior to him coming to UT, but not only did he lie to the NCAA, he tried to get many others to lie for him as well. He has no integrity. At least the issues that came up when he was at Iowa and the Deon Thomas issue, you can blame to some extent on his youth and immaturity. In his late 40's at UT, he was a liar.

Then he shows up at Auburn, hires Chuck Person, and allows him to go rogue and starts paying players immediately. A year after he was hired, Bruce was so impressed with Chuck's coaching (urr..cheating) that he promoted him to associate head coach. Wasn't just Person who got into trouble...2 others on his staff also had issues. I still can't believe Pearl survived that and only was suspended for a few games, despite not cooperating with Auburn's internal investigation. His attorney who represented him also represented the slime balls, Will Wade and Sean Miller. Guy is nothing but shady in my opinion.

I have to admit I wasn't very excited when we hired Barnes. I was skeptical of many things. Barnes proved me wrong about every concern I had. Congratulations to the best thing to happen to UT Basketball in my lifetime. Now, let's go get you some additional hardware for that trophy case!

<== this! Let’s hope we keep it up as a team, but regardless, this was one of Tennessee’s best hires since Bruce Pearl. Jury is still out on whether or not it was even a better hire. I think best hires in basketball/football since I have been alive are Summit, Fulmer, Pearl, Barnes and Heupel as it stands. We could see both Barnes and Heupel push for the top 3 before it’s all said and done.
The Barnes cultural advantages over Pearl pushes Barnes ahead in the basketball category, at least for me. The things he does, most of which go unnoticed, are far and away incredibly impressive.

It was fair to be skeptical. Barnes's image was at an all-time low having been fired from Texas. Tennessee's image was at an all-time low looking to hire their 4th coach in 6 years, two of which had been fired for NCAA violations and the other leaving under duplicitous claims of a racist environment and an unsupportive fanbase.

In a sense, the two were a perfect match for a reclamation project. Barnes needed a soft landing and Tennessee needed a stabilizing presence to calm the storm and rebuild the program and its image. I kind of figured Barnes would be here 4-5 years after doing just that, and then retire or move on. I never imagined multiple top-5 rankings, taking us to #1 for a month straight, multiple S16s, and an average of 22 wins per year over 9 seasons.

Despite his critics, the guy has been the greatest gift to Tennessee basketball, maybe ever. He fell into our laps and has made us not only relevant, again, but turned us into a perennial national brand.

Well-said. I expected Barnes to help clean up our image, stabilize the program, and possibly get us to the big dance in a few years. I wasn’t expecting him to go out and recruit his pants off, so my expectations were relatively mild. I’m glad I was wrong expectation-wise.

The other funny thing that has really been cool these last 3-4 games is the X’s and O’s of Barnes’ coaching skills. Making the adjustments with Aidoo and Awaka has brought another dimension to what this team can be, and is becoming. The guy knows the game.

They stupidly opted for the flavor of the month
I get that the NCAA early exits started wearing thin. But, this is Texas were talking about here. It's not like they had some legacy like Kansas or something. Fans need to try keep things in perspective.

The fire RB crowd is probably about 3 or 4 posters but y'all act like there's about 500 😆
Way way more - go to the “Sorry but it’s getting old Barnes discussion” thread and start counting. Maybe 3-4 completely show their hand, but there are 20+ that look to put him down for any and everything. They just aren’t brave enough to pull the FHAR card.
