Nice job OP. Although there were a coupla' "Uh-oh's," all that effort and bringing up this very pertinent subject rightfully should get 'ya a buncha' "likes."
On subject: It'll be interesting to watch the "onus factor" develop with some of these last gasp fellas. Shy and K-Mac come up first in my mind, followed by Kongbo. Two of the three (K-Mac and Kongbo) coulda'-shoulda'-woulda' be looking like first rounders for the NFL draft at this point in their college careers, yet they've never come close to meeting their predicted potential. Shy's different in here. Minus one very dirty block from a jawja POS, he'd already be playing...and maybe even starting...on Sundays. Great coaching-up this spring and summer might just spice up K-Mac's and Kongbo's value, both to UT football and to their draft status. Shy? Please, please, please keep those two legs from getting tweaked again!
John Kelly has an interesting challenge. IMHO, with Pruitt hopefully pulling in some stout JUCO O-linemen, and with three SEC capable backups to keep him from playing while gimpy, this youngster could quite possibly garner some big-time attention his last year in orange.
If nothing comes together at recruiting QB at this late juncture, then we should still be more solid at that position than most Volnationals are indicating as to how they feel. Dormady's married to a young lady who's also a UT student, and Pruitt's bammer-mindset tends to lean toward drop-back, pro-style QBs. He'd be smart to stay, and he's supposedly a smart guy. Guarantano's not going anywhere and his ankle will be well healed, and Will McBride can easily see some wonderful opportunities by staying around. With the proper coaching during the off-season, just as may be K-Mac and Kongbo, these guys have at least a strong chance of playing up to some more of that hype they received pre-signing with the Vols. Hey. They've already got SEC experience, so our Vols could wind up with tremendous QB depth.
As for D-linemen and LBs, let's remember the latest trend of using DE's for rushing LBs, and vice-versa. Maybe CJP will pull in some JUCOs to fill in some spaces there, too. I hope that's not overly optimistic, but may well be.
Some very capable and experienced DBs are still on the roster. Once again looking at the JUCOs CJPs going after, hopefully we'll have depth there by fall.
WRs, TEs and slot spots are lean. Let's hope some guys can step up and some short-term JUCOs can move in there, as well.
All in all: I'm glad we at least have some excellent recruiting and development talent on the coaching level. 'Thought we did before, but boy, was I wrong. GBO!
