Is it just me, or does everybody under the age of 25 just not care about baseball? I feel that MLB will be behind NFL, NBA, NASCAR and possibly even NHL in the US sports pantheon within the next decade. And that's just pro sports -- It's already behind college football as well, and possibly college basketball. And we already know it's behind those first three sports I listed.

I do not care for regular season baseball but I doubt it is behind the NBA in rankings. But to answer your question, for the most part I do not care about baseball.

I'm under the age of 25, and care very much about baseball. I know what you're saying, though.

I don't know about the NHL passing up the MLB. Those highlights waste too much of my Sportscenter viewing time.

I dunno, it might be a regional thing with the hoops. But Emperor Stern is actually doing a halfway decent job of turning the NBA around, while the NFL is starting to gain the "thug league" rep.

If MLB continues down its path (for whatever reason) and NHL finally pulls its head out of its butt and gets a contract on a major network, it's over. NHL could very well pass MLB then.

i love to go to baseball games. more so than anything else, with the exception of NASCAR.

that said, i think the length of the season is what bores me. i'll lose interest in late May and be bored with it until middle September.

I care. Really enjoy watching it. I do what I can to try and catch all the Cardinals games that I can... thanks to the Braves and Cubs, there's always a game on somewhere that I can watch.

NHL can keep their head in their butt as far as I'm concerned.

I see what you're saying, but NHL maybe passing MLB just won't happen. This is a big country, and getting bigger. The baseball audience is still out there.

That's the thing, though. Most franchises have their hometown contingencies. That's fine. NFL is the only league where that type of thing actually makes a difference. The way to make it major is to make nearly everybody care.

As Colin Cowherd has pointed out recently, UFC on Spike TV drew higher ratings than the World Series with 18-24 year olds. That says a lot about where baseball is really at. Those 18-24 year olds are gonna be the ones going on to make all the money in the next decade, and they're not gonna care about baseball. That's the money demographic, and baseball is getting beat by mixed martial arts.

Yeah, that's why MLB sets attendance records and receives record revenues every season. The NBA is nowhere near as popular as baseball. The NHL has a better chance of folding than it does of surpassing baseball. Also, NASCAR is like pro wrestling, it's sports entertainment. It doesn't belong in a discussion of traditional sports.

I still say you have some of this equation out of order. I do not see the NHL passing anyone soon, but if they were to overtake someone, the NBA would come before MLB. :twocents:

UFC has a good thing going. That shizzle is fun to watch.

You mean the path of increased attendance and record revenues?

I agree about NASCAR, but it's out there and it's huge right now. The only reason the NHL is doing crappy is because of their TV contract.

I hate to say it, but those 18-24 olds probably won't be making the type of money that will drive the sports economy in the years to come

Two things: 1. Colin Cowherd is the only person who gives JT the Brick competition for the title of Stupidest Person On Radio. 2. American Idol draws a big audience. The idea that a college student watching UFC now will still be watching that garbage in 10 years is laughable. Most people actually evolve and develop taste.

There is also a reason why ESPN decided not to renew their hockey contract.

The NHL is doing poorly because the vast majority of Americans could give a damn less about hockey.

If you're watching the UFC when you're 28-34, then you probably aren't very relevant.
