If ya just listen, and ya don’t try to read something different into what he says, he explains his decisions, even if he’s of the opinion he makes mistakes too. I think sometimes, because the baseball season is so long, it’s hard to hang on every word. I also think it’s helpful to watch other teams in the SEC go thru their growing pains. We’re okay. This year, we’re a bit young, bound to have some growing pains, but we got guys, we’re okay.

GBO!!!

We’re ok.

Two of the most powerful words that can be uttered. Life altering in the real world for those who can embrace the attitude.

I’ll give you two other words. Let’s fight! C-Mo stated it and started it, but lasts years whole team had that mentality. Hopefully this loss propels the 25 BaseVols toward the same.

The pitching depth on this team is very shallow. There are only 4 guys you can feel good about being on the mound against a good team. The inabiity of most of last night's pitchers to throw strikes is very concerning. There were more than a couple of them who were 2-0, 3-1 on almost every hitter. If you can't compete any better than that, you shouldn't be out there.

And while I hate to call out individuals, Combs was the most uncompetitive guy of the night. Given the opportunity to close out the game, he got behind every hitter and gave up a hard single to start the inning, then got behind in the count again and had to throw a strike on a full count and gave up the game tying HR.

Offensively, there were only 3 guys in the lineup that got a basehit......against very mediocre pitching. Ensley was the only one showing maturity at the plate while the rest spent the night hitting pop ups and watching 3rd strikes with men on base.

The Vols are the better team but last night they were out hit and out pitched by a solid midlevel D1 program. ETSU earned the win.

That’s an understandable take.

And also:

The Gators are elite and close to a top 5 team. They got 7 total runs against our pitchers over 3 games. Also, 5 guys combined for the first no hitter we’ve thrown in 20 years.

I think we’ll be alright.

I’ve got to disagree. This is a take that may only warrant a third place ribbon at the Legion of the Miserable County fair, but is Miserable none the less. Basing an opinion on one baseball game, much less fractions of innings is not how baseball works.

I saw the CWS Championship team lose to Lipscomb and Evansville. Tennessee is every team’s “World Series” each game. I know every team schedules the snow belt, but I think we need to beef up the early non conference weekend games.

Some of you obviously don't understand baseball. It's not negative when it's facts.

Most of the guys who pitched against ETSU have potential or they wouldn't be on the team. But, if they don't have the confidence or toughness to throw strikes, they will never be effective. Most were 2-0, 3-1, 3-2 on every hitter they faced. Without elite stuff, you can't be effective pitching behind in the count. The guys I was talking about need to develop toughness and the confidence to pitch not just in the zone but have command inside the zone.

Krenzel was one of the few guys who pitched well vs ETSU and he got another opportunity vs Alabama and was successful. Combs, on the other hand pitched from behind in the 9th vs ETSU and got ripped. Did the same thing vs Alabama, went 2-0 on the first hitter and gave up a hit and got pulled again. Vols need him to get right and be successful. Krenzel has earned more mound time and the others can to if they will challenge hitters early in the count and stay ahead. They have the talent, it's up to them to get there.

Vols need more pitchers to step up so Snead doesn't have to 3+ innings in games so he can be used twice in a weekend. If Krenzel can cement himself in a trusted weekend bullpen role, that's a big help to Loy and Snead who have been dependable all year.
