Basilio is reporting Smith obtained guns because of death threats

It was speculated to me that this might have been a drug run. Unless they really did just go for a party on New Years eve, it could explain the trip, which could explain the guns and need for them

Completley moranic and idiotic!! Its those kind of statements that should get someone thrown out of here.

Yeah, call the cops and say "Hey, my cohorts in an illegal enterprise are threatening me. Please help." That would be brilliant.

OK, I'll ask you again, "What do you know that 'we' don't know?"

I will admit that I have been vehemently against many of the things that you have said and implied in this forum, but unfortunately this incident is SOME vindication of sorts in my mind. In other words, you likely did see this sort of thing coming.

Did this event involve all or most of the individuals that you thought were involved in nefarious activities, or are there more? Is this something that Pearl could/should have seen from a mile away?

I know that Pearl has already kicked several players off the teams for weed, etc. So, I guess I am still in some denial that Pearl is condoning anything or overlooking the obvious.

Funny that Moe Brown at South Carolina had a gun problem last summer and Spurrier accepted the "rough part of town" excuse for the gun, and there was no media scrutiny:

There's a pretty big difference between one guy being caught illegally carrying a gun of which he's the lawful, registered owner, and a third of a basketball team being busted in a car with weed and two guns, one of which has an altered serial number.

It's fairly well known in many circles around campus that T. Smith is involved in some dealing of drugs and that explains alot of this situation and why he would need a gun.

Tyler went to the same high school as me, GCHS, but I'm older. My brother is a year ahead of him and stated that he smoked weed in h.s. but did not know anything bout "dealing".

Wow, some of you should get together, go gas up the Mystery Machine and go sleuthing around Nashville. Speculation is one thing, but accusations of drug runs and gang activity are irresponsible, even for a message board...

Associates related to all the weed he was buying? It makes sense---they like to get paid quick when they sell the stuff.

Seriously, I don't want to sound or be racist, but when are young black men going to give up the "gangsta" lifestyle thing? Haven't they gotten the message YET that packing heat is kind of stupid and will end up causing you major problems--jail, eviction from your team, death. Look Arenas and Crittendon of the Wa. Wizards--pulling guns on each other in the locker room! Universities and the pro leagues HAVE to crack on these IDIOTS with both feet. Unfortunately, because one or few dopes obtain guns, the others feel like they have to do the same.

A friend with connections to the DA tells me that Tyler was mixed up with Niya Goins and her family (not the most savory characters), and through that connection had received the threats. But he made the trip to Nashville because he told the other players that he knew the best clubs there and wanted to party-- and Smith took the guns for protection. (Some clubs popular with gangstas in Nashville have shootings most weekends, it seems.) So here's Tyler, supposed to provide senior leadership, and he shows that by dragging Williams, Tatum, and Melvin Goins to Nashville bars to hang out with skanks and show his guns, and then speed back to Knoxville with dope and liquor in the car. :banghead2:

When "DEATH THREATS" are involved...go to the cops! Period.

What do you not understand about the situation? Why would Tyler, who it is well-known around campus deals drugs and possibly worse, go to the cops about death threats? They would get to the bottom of why he was getting them and he's be in trouble regardless.
