Basilio is the only show worth listening to now that FSK/fan run has run off or lost almost all of its talent. Russell is the only thing keeping them in business at this point.

I feel like most people love him or hate him. Very polarized.

I personally love the Stinnett Collision of the week and anything with Shawn Sinclair.

This is the reason for the poll. Wanted some real basis to assess his acceptance instead of trying to guess at the mix as I read the boards.

Tough gig to pull off and pay the bills I guess. I only listen to the news segments and practice reports on 99.1. An occasional guest, i.e. Dr. Punch and national pundits. Avoid all the betting advisors and standard drivel from most of the hosts, Wilkerson excluded. Long for a better solution. May not be financially viable.

The fact that his show is only on CB radio channel 9 tells me all I need to know about it. Haven't listened since the Dewey Warren days but unless he's changed, Tony never did any prep work, has no real contacts or inside sources (Philly & Beano don't count) and no real insight to any Tennessee sport. He was good at throwing out a controversial topic and letting his 12 or so callers drone on and on and beat the topic to death.

It was kinda like a soap opera. You could miss a couple of months (or years) and come back and they'd still be talking about the same things.

GuntersVol does make a great point in the post above. I would rather listen to Tony than the Beavis and Butthead show that the Animal puts on every day from 3:00 to 7:00.

Basilio is a weird dude, for sure. But he damn sure loves this place and works hard to put content together. His consistency is unreal. If you can tolerate his teenage maturity level, there's a lot of good to take away. I pick and choose when and if I listen, but I love knowing that dude will always be there supporting this place.

I've listened to Basilio for about for about 30 years. He's come a long way for sure. He tightened up his show quite a bit once he was buying his time slot on stations and broadcasting online.
Over time, he has cultivated pretty good sources for inside info but will call shots without the fear of needing to keep access since he's not a beat reporter and he doesn't fear losing sponsorship from big boosters because of reporting. Probably since the Butch era, he's reigned in crazy speculation and keeps his takes closer to the vest.

His post game shows are unmatched. They pull pretty good numbers, more than a lot of TV shows.

If you're looking for a show that gives you the "bro" betting alerts and some guys with real radio announcer voices, probably isn't for you. But if you like to talk Vols sports with other Vol fans, it's not too shabby.

I listen to him almost daily. I've learned to ignore parts of his personality that are over the top as he stays true to trying to "entertain" people. I also appreciate the inside connections he has. He's been early with info before others. He's certainly not 100% with this info, but I like that he's comfortable enough in his position to put it out there. Like today, he said we may see something develop around reclassifying Amari Evans so he can enroll at mid-term to provide depth. Finally, Basilio does some really good work for the community for those not as fortunate.

Have listened to him off and on since the 90s and overall enjoy what he does. However sometimes he hyper focuses on certain topics especially negative aspects of a team that then become the central narrative of his show weighing it down. It’s best when Beano is with him who reins him in some. His insider knowledge on baseball and basketball you can trust but his football insider info can be shaky.

And from firsthand knowledge he is a really good man with the charity work he does.

This is probably the most balanced take on the matter I've seen. Like you, I listen almost daily, but ignore a lot of the self-aggrandizing parts of his personality. The constant attention-seeking for being on the air when he's sick or it's late (postgame shows) like he's self-harming in order to provide a service to the people...I can do without all that. But he does bring an amount of entertainment to local sports, especially for someone like me who no longer lives in Knoxville.
