Thanks, we're driving in tomorrow from North Carolina and from what I can see on DOT cameras on the interstates, it's clear on the major roads. Just hard to get a real idea of side streets when local media always blow everything out of proportion.I’ll try. The interstate around and through Knoxville is in good shape. Kingston Pike is in good shape as well. Some of the other secondary thoroughfares are decent, but slick in spots. Roads lightly traveled are bad.
There is so much ice compacted below the snow layer that things can get tricky in a hurry, especially with hilly locations. If you’re coming from I-40 west, I would stay on the interstate to downtown and take the exit at the top of the downtown ramp and follow down to Neyland Drive. Any other routes may or may not be okay.
Things could continue to change as temps are plummeting beginning later this afternoon to around 12 degrees tonight. I would also start early, obviously. This is the worst as far as roads go that I’ve ever seen in Knoxville, at least as far as this timeframe goes.
Side streets and tertiary and secondary roads can be really treacherous at this point. Hopefully roads around the campus are better than what I’ve seen otherwise. Be safe. Thanks, we're driving in tomorrow from North Carolina and from what I can see on DOT cameras on the interstates, it's clear on the major roads. Alabama is almost as big a rival as KentuckyHope we can carry this positive momentum and recent play into tomorrow--- would love to see us stomp bama at home just like we did ole miss... Everyone is going to try to knock us off, so they'll be playing lights out to get the upset--- good thing DK seems to have found his rhythm again and Aidoo and a few others seem to be playing with confidence...Start fast and confident and don't let the foot off the gas.
Was on campus today. Very sketchy but if you made it this far, you'll have no problem. Sidewalks and lots are iced over, most side streets are untouched. UT has not done a great job of getting ready for students on Monday. Campus is passable, but it's not greatI’ll try. The interstate around and through Knoxville is in good shape. They canceled class Monday due to the conditions. Plus, they wanted to give students more time to travel (from winter break) since temperatures are expected to be above freezing Sunday. Was on campus today. I'm an Eagles fan, so I feel your pain, this year. 10-1 to 11-6 and one and out in the playoffs. Complete collapse
Budgets are minimal for winter weather maintenance in the South. We've had relatively warm winters with less snow the past 30-40 yearsWas on campus today.
