Not wanting to be negative since I have followed our program since Ray Mears, but other than Chism and Bradshaw do we have any Tennessee players that came in on. scholarship (J. Smith was a walkon)?

Look at all of the talent that we let slip out of the state........Humphrey and Brewer at UF............the freshman kid at North Carolina, etc. I think this is an area that Pearl absolutely must improve on, IMO.

P.S. Maybe someone could take up the torch like HV did in FB recruiting and be our BB recruiting expert.

Those players that left our state did so under Buzz. Its not something to be concerned with. Pearl will get the best Tennessee players at UT if they are good enough and they fit his system. He got Chism in his first year.

Yes we have had some players leave the state and some will continue to do so. Bball isnt like football cause their is not as many schollys to give. It will always be a struggle to get the kids out of Memphis because of Memphis and it is so far away it is like being in a different state. Plus CBP has only had one class so far and the players that did leave that are noticable are at some pretty good programs. North Carolina and Georgia Tech are two really good Bball schools. I think as long as CBP gets the right kids to fit his system whether they are from TN or not is just fine. To be a powerhouse in anything sometimes you have to go out of state and get the best kids not just the hometown players.

We've got plenty of talent as Mississippi State (ha ha ha). But seriousy, Jamont Gordon and Tyler Smith both dipped out on Pearl. I can't remember the link, but I thought I remembered Brendan Wright (UNC) and Corey Brewer (UF) both say that if Pearl was coaching UT when they were seniors, they would have picked UT. Pearl is going to do a great job with keeping in-state recruits. Just give him time.

Pearl has made both Elliot Williams out of Memphis and Phillip Jurick top priorities, and probably has a good shot to land both. Then for '09, there's Ferrakohn Hall who I think is very high on Pearl and the Vols, and also PG Leslie McDonald. I would not be surprised to see Pearl get at least half of these guys, and possibly all of them.

I was talking to someone who plays for my old high school a couple weeks ago. They played East Ridge(Juricks team) and he said that he isn't that great. The guy I talked to said he had like three points and a couple rebounds. Not too well for a top 30 kid.

I played football against Tyler Smith in high school. He was fast. Off topic sorry. Where did he go to school at? I haven't heard about him since I graduated

Let me think about this for a minute. Evaluation of college head coaches who are recruiting him...vs...some guy who played for your old high school? Hmmm...no offense, but I'll side with the evaluation of the major college head coaches.

plus i think that coaches are so high on the 2 chattanooga boys because of their potential...and Tyler Smith ended up a Iowa btw.

Is it just me or is Iowa tremendously overrated in everything they do? They are perennial disappointments in football and basketball yet their coaches are constantly praised and tapped for promotions.

That is the case for football. Ferentz this Ferentz that. I haven't seen why he gets so much love from people.

Iowa did have a deserving bunch of coaches that developed under Hayden Frye, and some of that lineage is still out there today. I think that this is the reason that their assistants still seem to show up at the top of alot of wish lists.

I'd say right now that our top 3 priorities are Chris Singleton, Elliot Williams, and Phillip Jurick for the 08 class. If we can land those 3 and one more shooter, then we will have a very solid class.

Basketball recruiting with the whole "instate" thing like football isn't nearly the same. It's much more political and a lot of it depends on depth of teams and PT. If you weren't a UT fan, and you got an offer from UT or got the chance to come in and start at UNC, you'd probably pick UNC. It's 5 guys out there not 22. Good news is we'll get some more instate talent now that BP is head coach. He is a great coach and a great recruiter.

I knew you were the man for accurate fb recruiting info, it's nice to know we can count on you for the bb info too.

Thanks HV :good!:

You are correct. The chattanooga boys (Philip Jurick and Carter McMasters) are being recruited for potential. As one earlier post said, Jurick wasn't having a good season. Well, to be honest, their teams are doing ok, but both of these players individual games have been mediocre to say the least. Neither of these players have had great seasons. I've been following both players and they've not put up big numbers for the most part. McMasters was held scoreless in one game and he was being guarded by a 6'2 forward. They both have a lot of work to do, but they both have potential through the roof. McMasters is 6'10 and can hit the 3 ball, but he's extremely skinny. Jurick is 6'10 250, but needs a lot of work on the post. IF UT offers these guys, I have full confidence that Bruce can get the most potential outta these guys. You gotta remember that although they are having decent seasons, they are only juniors and they could blow up their senior years too.

..as for jurick, i went to the highschool he plays for and I have been to like, uhh...7 games this yr...he is a work in progress...has one game where is ungodly good..blocks everything, dominates the boards, plays offensive agressively..and for his defense he gets some crap calls on him b/c he is bigger than bout anyone else..defiently got some potential..He needs to work on his shot though...reminds me of Shaq trying to shoot anything outta the paint

mcmasters needs to play his size and stop thinking he is dirk nowitzki (spelling)....i went to the game other night where they played each other (mcmasters and jurick) and mcmasters did not even guard jurick...what the crap?...i just dont see it in him...and btw, tubby smith was at the game and sampson from indiana....so Tennessee aint the only ones after this boys

Yup, Bruce wants Jurick more than Mcmasters..
Carter is more of a fall back plan if they strike out on the other post players they are after.. That's at least what I'm hearing.
