MUS beat St. Georges in the state championship. Briarcrest lost in the first round on a last second shot. People really underestimate the talent in DII basketball in Tennessee, especially in Memphis. There are several d1 players in this league.
ST. GEORGE'S
sg elliot williams (jr.; class of 08)
- 28th player in nation
- top 5 are tennessee, memphis, virginia, clemson, vanderbilt; he is a really smart kid (4 gpa) so an academic school is a must
- amazing talent, great shooter, great penetrator
sf laurence bowers (jr.; class of 08)
- new rankings have him at about 120 or something
- top schools are pepperdine, tennessee, clemson, arkansas
- good shot blocker, ok shooter from 15 feet, needs to get bigger and faster to play college sf
MUS
sf ferrakohn hall (so.; class of 09)
- will be ranked in the top 50 or 100 when rankings come out
- needs to get bigger, faster, and a better mid-range shot; certainly has the potential to play both fowards in college
- favorite is GT, but tennessee, memphis, ole miss all will call about him
FACS
sg vince barnes (sr.; class of 07)
- was told he was going to attend tennessee, probably as a walk-on, but he has as much talent as jajuan smith did when he came to tennessee
- only saw him play once so i dont know much about his game, but everytime i saw his name in the paper, he had 20 or 25 points
BRIARCREST
sg leslie mcdonald (so.; class of 09)
- no. 11 sophomore in nation
- his ranking came from an outstanding tour at aau, but he avg. 20 points, 6 boards, 2 blocks a game; scored 25+ 10 times (high of 37)
- he plays in the post at briarcrest and its teaching him to be finish above the rim and go get the rebound, and that is rare in a guard
- amazing mid range shot, becoming a better outside shooter; he just has a feel for the game that you rarely see
- 6'4, 190, 6'11 wingspan
- top schools are tennessee, duke, ole miss, alabama (it is still too early for him to name schools so look for all the big name schools enter this race)
pg gregg wooten (so.; class of 09)
- should be a top 100 or 150 player
- good penetrator, good strength and size for a guard
- tennessee is certainly in the race along with several acc schools
pf johnny williams (so.; class of 09)
- only played 4 games on varsity (transfer) but avg. 10 points, 6 boards, 3 blocks
- already naturally strong, but he's never lifted weights and his strength will increase greatly; only 15 and 6'6 so he will grow
- he wasnt allowed to play varsity as a freshman at mus, and sat out until region tournament this year, so he has only played 4 varsity games; so not many schools have seen him, but he does get mail from several schools including tennessee
sg elgin lee (jr.; class of 08)
- with all the attention on mcdonald and elliot williams, elgin lee doesnt get much attention, but he is an absolute spark on offense, avg. 16 points, scored 25+ about 5 times
- unstoppable one-on-one; doesnt play much defense, but if you can motivate him, he can play great; not a pg, but makes some great highlight passes
- not ranked highly
- only offers are from schools like belmont; claims to have had an offer to tennessee, but i think when tennessee learned that they were in it with elliot, jurick, singleton, miller, we took it back, but if we strike out with all those players, this is a kid we could look to because of offense firepower; i would not be surprised if he walks on at tennessee and earns minutes like jajuan did
