BasketVols in the NBA (Pros)

Didn't realize that Donnie Tyndall is now Jordan Bone's head coach...

Graham was a second-round pick in the 2018 draft; Nunn wasn’t drafted that year. Both are excelling after spending time in the Gatorade League. The Pistons, finally using their G-League affiliate in Grand Rapids as a tool to unearth unsung talent, are hoping Jordan Bone can follow a similar path. Selected 57th overall, he is playing well for the Drive, averaging 18.2 points and 7.9 assists per game, numbers that lead the team.

...At Tennessee, Bone spent three seasons in the motion offense of head coach Rick Barnes. Motion offenses spread offensive responsibilities; during Bone’s junior season he shared ball-handling responsibilities with Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield.

The NBA is a different game. Each team runs pick-and-roll attacks with a primary ball-handler — usually the point guard — initiating the offense. That means the point guard has to navigate more than 60 ball screens from bruising centers — ball screens that hurt if teammates don’t communicate to warn it’s coming. “I’m kind of playing catch up — both reading the offense, coming off the pick-and-roll and reading the defense and defending it,” Bone said. After each game, he goes over video with Drive head coach Donnie Tyndall or another member of the coaching staff to get feedback.
