The job was always good. Just have to hire good coaches.
Top notch HC would disagree with you BP was last good coach we had until Barnes, CM could coach but couldnt recruit. All we need after RB decides to retire is to be picky and patient and to heck with this hire in the family crap people scream you see where that has got Lady Vols over these past years

Take out his first two years and he's winning at a 72% clip...... We are all aware of his probabilities in the post season, but this level of recruiting and almost near certainty to be a ranked and top 4-6 seed every year is much greater than rolling the dice on someone else.

Basketball program has been on autopilot for a bit aka stability.

This post should be stickied! Our predicament destroys the "bubble discussions in December as we hope to have a path somehow to a play in game".

Favorite play last night ... Our 7-1 center is fed the ball at literally 1' range. He puts the ball on the FLOOR! ... Then he goes straight to the bench to sit a while!
Lord, how long does it take to train a guy that he is not 5'6”?

This team’s defense is unquestionably ELITE. It’s the best defensive team I’ve seen in many a year. CLEARLY we are still finding our way offensively as ALL teams must do but I sure liked the intensity we played with tonight. Especially after the rash of turnovers. The D never let up even though we were struggling to protect the ball.

That really was a weak play especially since Kansas mostly played a lineup with 6’-8” guys in the post.

Barnes is getting the players but we have yet to have the right combination of players to make a deep tournament run except for Grant & Admiral's final year where it took atrocious officiating and one white kid hitting every 3pt shot he jacked up to keep us from making the Elite 8 against Purdue. Still mad about that game and the refs tried to screw us the game before. The year before we got ousted on the luckiest bounce of all time vs. a 100 year old nun.

Barnes does not have a great record in the NCAAT but it takes a lot to win and most of our teams have been lacking in one a key area since the Grant/Admiral teams and even those teams lacked an extra deep ball shooter other than Lamonte.

The Springer/Keon team had tons of talent but no PG play and our two stars lacked experience. Last year's team had nobody with size that could slash to the basket. If this year's team reaches their potential then it will be the most well rounded team we have had since the Grant/Admiral teams but we need Phillips and Mashack to progress and I would like BJ Edwards to be a reliable backup.

He really is a great coach. I hope that he figures the post season out. Not only for us, but he definitely deserves a national championship on his résumé.

BJ could become a really good PG with some good coaching. We will have to see how well he progresses.

The deepest UT team that I can remember.
That should pay off big as the season goes along.

I agree. I think this would complete our team. I think a lot of championship teams have a player or two who are completely different players than they were when the season began, and I think those guys are the most likely to take the next step.

Depends what team shows up. This team seems to hit a dry spell during some big games where they can't hit anything. Just hope that doesn't happen too much this year. Like the Michigan game in the tourney, good night before...then couldn't hit anything and lost.

His NCAAT W/L record would be much better. If his marginally good teams FAILED TO MAKE THE FIELD.

Yep, seems like a well-timed injury to a player here and there in March has made the team continuity a bit off. I can remember distinctly the Chicago Nun team but there were others. We've had some teams that overachieved but really would have to have a lot of things fall into place, like seedings or Mercer upset Duke basically giving us Dukes seed. Things like that are what makes the tournament fun but can help or hamper teams. It's not so absolute and simple like some try to make it.

If he'd just stood stong on that PG from St. Louis I believe we'd be cookin' with bacon fat. Such an opportunity and he let it slip thru his fingers.

Or potentially in trouble with NCAA considering we already were under investigation from them as a university, probably wise not to risk that.
