Battery Powered Lawn Tools

I've heard very good things about the brand EGO. They make a self-propelled lawnmower, weed eaters, blowers, etc. Worth a look, IMO.

I have the EGO self propelled lawn mower and will never go back to gas and oil. Best purchase I've made in quite some time. If you have more than 1/2 an acre it might be a b***h though as you would need 2 lithium ion batteries and they ain't cheap at all.

Quite a few Black and Decker users in here.

While we're on the topic, I need to get a power tool system. All I've got is a few corded tools and it's time to grow up and be a man. Thoughts about Milwaukee?

https://www.plumbersstock.com/milwaukee-m12-tools.html

My dad has a Milwaukee battery powered Sawzall. That thing was surprisingly much more quiet than it's corded brother.

What oil?

This time around it was Supertech 2 cycle. It's not a particular issue with the oil/gas mixture it's just more times than not I'm having to adjust something, finagle with the settings, or hold my head just right and curl my tongue to get it to start. It basically needs maintenance and cleaning once a year. This last time I made a new gas mixture, filled the weed eater up, and not 2 minutes after I get started the damn thing is leaking gas onto the hot, running engine. It's probably just a loose gas line or just a line that needs to be replaced but it's always something. I've reached the point where most times I choose not to edge at all than to fight with the weed eater.

I have the EGO blower and string trimmer from Home Depot. They both work great. The blower is just as if not more powerful than my gas one that I never use. He string trimmer doesn't fine. I would suggest an extra battery or two cause it's frustrating to almost finish and the battery drops out. One thing about the EGO is they are very high voltage. 55V I think. Hat gives you a lot of power. The blower has link a turbo switch that when you use it it will blow about anything that's not nailed down.

I have a 20 volt Dewalt trimmer. I love it! Plenty of power. My yard is over an acre with a fair amount of trimming. I get three mowings out of one charge on both 4 amp/hr and a 5 amp/hr batteries. Pay attention to the amp/hr rating when buying batteries. I wouldn't go less than a 4 amp/hr and by all means get lithium ion batteries. I bought mine on Amazon for $179.00. It came with a 5 amp/hr battery and charger. This is a plus since the battery interchanges with my Dewalt tools. I still own a commercial Stihl if I need to use a blade, but never have to pull it out for normal trimming, even in heavy grass.

The shindy T-22 is ideal for s home owner.

Other than that, stihl 110r.

I won a Shindaiwa commercial weed eater (no idea model #) 7 or 8 years ago and I prefer it over my Stihl that is about 12 years old. Chainsaws and blowers Stihl only.

Not knocking the battery powered stuff, but I have zero problems with my 2 cycle toys after I started buying the good stuff and using 100% gasoline.

Cub cadet trimmer that's 14 years old, Stihl chain saw that's 10 years old, Hitachi blower that's 5 years old. They'll all start by the second pull.

agree with this - all of my stuff is Husqvarna and Stihl.
The husqvarna chain saw I have had since 1994 - replaced clutch after ~20 years - other than that any repairs required were self inflicted. In some respects I like the husqvarna products better because I can order replacement parts easier on line. With the Stihl products, I have to go thru a dealer.

I've been pleasantly surprised at how well the battery powered hedge trimmers work.

Weedeater works good but struggles a bit when I'm trying to clear ivy.

See, Honey.......there's lot's of things that need a second pull to get started.

Like somebody else said, you kind of get what you pay for when it comes to weed eaters. If you just go buy a decent commercial grade weed eater, (roughly $200) that would probably be the last one you'd ever buy if you're just trimming at your house. Shindaiwa was bought out by Echo a few years ago, so the newer ones are good, but not quite the same quality as the ones from 10-15 years ago. RedMax is also a good brand.

As for electric power tools, we've got the DeWalt 20v Max at work and they're fantastic, but on the higher end of the price spectrum.

Opti-oil

It's dummy proof. No matter the ratio, one package to one gallon of gas.

Ryobi 40v line is good. Hedge trimmer's a beast (I wear out before the battery does). Bigger blower is awesome. Had one of the mowers for little while (traded it for a chainsaw - let neighbor kid mow my small lawn), weed eater is ok - I got it before they came out with the changeable head.

I have a 20v worx brand weedeater. Love it. If you do heavy duty weedeating, it's probably not the way to go. But for me it's perfect.

Ryobi now has 40 volt batteries with 5 amps. It's supposed to last much longer than the lower amperage batteries. I just bought a mower with the 40/5.0 but I haven't fired it up yet. Grass is over a foot high in sections so I'll have a good idea how well it performs. I also have the blower, chain saw, and hedge trimmer. The hedge trimmer is outstanding. The blower runs down pretty quick.
