Battle 4 Atlantis Thoughts

We've shot well under 50% once first game against Xavier. (7-19) Still shot 59% against UTEP. Free throws weren't our problem. Going 3-21 from three and not adjusting to a zone was. We went 23-39 at the line still would have been down two.
They will be our problem down the stretch in close games if we don't pick it up. You know that.
Maymon showed 2 seasons ago he could. Barton certainly can.

Nobody this year has shown to really struggle at the line but Maymon and that was the first game. We don't know what to think of Stokes yet. He's making them now but that wears on you. He has to stay aggressive and want to go to the line.

Out of the 5 if it comes down to crunch time and putting someone at the line. I wouldn't have a problem with any of the 5. Our free throws have been good for majority of the time this year.

Barton is much better than a 61% ft shooter.
And Maymon is better than 60%.
Stokes has improved vastly this season. These guys can too.
Could be the difference when it's close.

I must say that my patience is growing thin with Zo and his inability to adjust at the first sign of a zone defense. I can't believe more teams don't run it exclusively on us until we show an ability to adjust to it.

I'm happy with 2-1, but I must admit, it's about as unsatisfying a 2-1 as we could have hoped for. Losing to UTEP soured the whole weekend. It was nice to respond with two decisive victories in which we neither shot well, nor defended well, and still managed to win by an average of 17 points.

Still, I'm growing tired of the early season Jekyll & Hyde act. We need consistency and we need to come out each game with the same intensity. Hopefully, what we saw in games 2 & 3 are what we continue to see moving forward (with improved shooting and defense).

Wichita St. is an important resumé game.

Nice writeup and UTEP has NBA size length which I believe frustrated Jarnell and Jeronne as they tried to shoot inside.

Could break top 25 with a win over Witchy. tough out tho.

Barton is a career 66% FT shooter. Maymon a career 61% FT shooter. I wouldn't expect vast improvements as seniors from either.

Stokes looks to have put in work and is actually shooting them instead of pushing them. Good for him. He will shoot a lot of them so improvement for him equals free points.

I agree. We are never going to go perfect at the line but if our starters collectively can only miss 1 or 2 that is great.

I'd hate to see us against UK then with Randle and WCS.

Stokes buried WCS under the rim both games last year. As long as he doesn't go away from that. He'll be fine. Randle is 6'7 like Maymon. Randle the better athlete but he doesn't get up to block shots. We'll see how they handle it.

That performance against UTEP did look ugly at the time, but UTEP made it seem not so bad in retrospect by giving KS a hard time.

I generally just keep to myself on the BB forum, but this is one of the best write ups I've seen. Better than a lot of pay sites, IMO.

Excellent work.

I truly believe that part of the issue against UTEP was that they made some contested jumpshots that most teams probably don't make. That said, our paint defense in the second half was awful. We did seem to be confused with the Triangle and 2, and that is where a shooting specialist can help. I was never really the best player on my team (so wouldn't get one of the two matchups) but would love the other 3 playing a zone because I could hit an outside shot. You also have to use the big guys to screen on the 2 man players and attack.

Good comeback games, though.

I'd worry more about LSU. O'Bryant and Mickey are bulldogs, and both are big.

I think they are Tigers(jk), but you are right. That will be a very hard road game to win.
Especially first in conference.
Not sure why we scheduled like this, this season. first game road. First conference road.

I don't think we make our conference schedule?

The good thing is that 3 of the next 4 after LSU are winnable at home. That way, we at least start out 3-2 or better. It seems like the last 2 years that we had a tough stretch of games to start conference play. I am not just saying that because we lost- last year- OM at home, at Bama, at UK, MSU at home, at OM.

Excellent write up.

I expect more roller coasters this season, but I hope Tennessee can find momentum and hold it at the right time.

And hit free throws.

Did you ride the water slide with the tube through the shark tank?

Funny what I remember from my trip to Atlantis several years back.

Did not. Weather wasn't all that great, better than Knoxville, but not warm enough for me to go swimming.
