A very weird series that seems to play out quite odd: regardless of how good or bad both teams are, these games have often had a tendency to play out in quite weird, sometimes messy, close scoring games (up until the last 2 years at least, which have ended in blowouts in Missouri’s favor).

Missouri leads the series 9-5 (though the series is 7-5 since Missouri joined the SEC) with the Tigers having won the last 5 straight (including the last two meetings in Columbia, SC).

This year marks the first time since 2013 - the second SEC conference game meeting between the two - that both teams come into the matchup as ranked teams (Missouri came into that matchup ranked #5 in the BCS and South Carolina held the #20 spot in the rankings) …which arguably led to the most iconic ending in this rivalry’s history (one still yet to be surpassed in their matchups):

Giving Mizzou another loss, as well as Clemson in 2 weeks, is nothing but good for the Vols.
Not really as both are really way too far out of it; the only way they’re jumping up high enough at 10-2 is with a cataclysmic next few weeks for the teams that are 1-loss and 2-loss teams (like dramatically awful…like Tennessee loses to UGA and Vanderbilt, UGA loses to GT, Penn State loses to Minnesota and Maryland, etc, for almost 15+ others teams bad).

All South Carolina winning those two really would do is strengthen the resumes of the teams that beat them (ie, 2-loss Alabama and 2-loss LSU and 2-loss Ole Miss) with the committee, with a message that this was a really good South Carolina team those teams beat and both should be bumped up higher with regards to other 2-loss teams who don’t have much in the great wins area or have bad losses.

I’m happy to watch 2-loss teams fall to the wayside. I’ll go it alone, I guess.

2-loss LSU can lose today as well, imo.

If all Missouri’s drives are going to keep ending with them stalling inside the South Carolina 20 and having to kick field goals, all the Gamecocks really are going to need is another TD or so and then just try to drain as much time off the clock as they can when they have the ball in their hands.

I’m just saying it would help a lot more 2-loss teams that TN is actually in competition with if they lose today than it would hurt, given today’s game and the following USCe v Clemson game.

I’m perfectly fine or in agreement for things like, say, wanting Missouri lose to Arkansas or even Miss St to down another 2-loss team, when it can only benefit at most 2 of the other 2-loss teams TN would be worrying about.

I understood what you were saying.

After their defense stalls Missouri’s offense following a Gamecock fumble on a sack leading to a missed 49 yard FG, South Carolina finally catches the Tigers defense it had set up with all those runs with a 43 yard pass to put the Gamecocks at the Missouri 6.

The upcoming TD here after the 2-minute break could make this one messy, or even over.
