I'm not sure what Kim's relationship with Holly is like but her love and admiration for Coach Pat runs deep...as does all of Baylor Nation. It's a respect she learned as a player at La Tech and as a member of Pat's Olympic team. Mulkey would never do anything to disrespect the memory of Coach Pat...especially in Pat's house.

I was at the BU- Winthrop game. I can tell you it was an epic mis-match. If Mulkey had played only the bottom 5 players for the entire game it would have still been a 70+ point victory. I have never seen such an inept team in college ranks. Yet they had two fairly good players. Every one else merely run up and down the floor. Some on social media are saying that baylor should have just passed the ball around taking a shot clock violation or merely passed the ball back to them to show a little mercy. I can't help but believe that those who say such never played much sports. It's awful hard to tell your team not to perform.

Baylor womens basketball openly lies about its blowout disgraces | New York Post
It's tough to tell your girls not to compete at the fullest, but the optics of this win are terrible for the Baylor program, and for WCBB as a whole.
Highlights of fast breaks and threes when the game was completely out of hand...
Way too many P5 schools are scheduling cupcake after cupcake (even ND to some extent this year), and in reality it only hurts their own program. Baylor did not grow one bit in the win over Winthrop - and they have some other really low rated teams on their schedule as well.
Not really helpful to the girls on the Baylor team in the long run, and I don't think games like these sell tickets, since the outcome is long predetermined.
I disagree that Baylor has nothing to gain from games like this. This becomes an opportunity for Lauren Cox and Natalie Chou to play big minutes, put up good numbers and gain confidence. Same as the benefit for Tennessee scheduling the likes of Troy so that MeMe Jackson and Alexa Middleton can gain confidence during actual game time.
The game may be predetermined, but there are benefits for the bench to play in these kinds of games and help develop them to become more of an asset during games against tougher competition.
RE: confidence for the freshmen - I agree with you IF the confidence gained is not FALSE CONFIDENCE. I think you can feel like Lebron against rank greater than 100 teams, and then reality sets in when you take on a top 10 team.
But if the player is mentally struggling with confidence, I could see where a game against Winthrop might cheer them up.
in the case of freshmen players like a cox or chou, who were top hs players that are struggling to get adjusted to the college games, i believe that the confidence will help them despite the lesser competition. It's not like they are scrub players; they were recruited to be key players for the team. So it's basically your second scenario. The repetition and exposure to playing "college games" will help them without the pressure of having to perform that way against a team like uconn. Sometimes, feasting on cupcakes is just what the doctor ordered.
Wow, was this really necessary??
- largest margin of victory in NCAAW history
- 2nd most points scored in NCAAW history
Kim, put on the brakes when Baylor played UT.
How embarrassing for lil ole' Winthrop...
