BCS game appearances

True, we did go 10-2 and won at Miami in November. I can buy not getting a BCS bowl but dropping down to the Peach Bowl was a load of bull, especially the Outback taking an 8-4 Florida team we beat over us.

Everybody knew by then Fulmer couldn't win the bowl games so fan base wasn't going to travel. Bowl committee thought (and rightfully so) that they would go to Atlanta. They were right. Just look at the two Peaxh Bowl appearances!

I will concede they laid a huge egg in the previous Peach Bowl to Maryland; that was a truly embarrassing performance that was pretty much the exclamation point to a disappointing season.

But I don't really buy people didn't think Fulmer couldn't "win the bowl games". He was 5-5 at that point, and while it's no excuse for not showing up, you know the team had to be pretty down at ending back up in the Peach Bowl even though they had a much better season than 2002.

I was surprised that Ohio State is 6-3. I usually bash them, but I guess their bowl record speaks volumes on how consistent they are.

I think we had at least some argument in 2003 as well, though not as strong as in 2001. We were sitting there in the #6-10 range at the end of the year and the BCS and at least one or two other bowls passed on us.

We were sitting at #8.

Had the extra BCS bowl been added (as is the current system), we would have gotten an at large bid, at the very least due to the system not being able to add more than 2 teams from one conference.

Here were the rankings:

1 Oklahoma 12-1
2 LSU 12-1 (SEC Champ)
3 USC 11-1 (Pac 10 Champ)
4 Michigan 10-2 (Big 10 Champ)
5 Ohio State 10-2
6 Texas 10-2
7 Florida State 10-2 (ACC Champ)
8 Tennessee 10-2
9 Miami (Fla.) 10-2 (Big East Champ)
10 Kansas State 11-3 (Big 12 Champ)
11 Miami (Ohio) 12-1
12 Georgia 10-3
13 Iowa 9-3
14 Purdue 9-3
15 Florida 8-4
16 Washington State 9-3
17 Boise State 12-1
18 TCU 11-1
19 Mississippi 9-3
20 Nebraska 9-3
21 Oklahoma State 9-3
22 Utah 9-2
23 Maryland 9-3
24 Bowling Green 10-3
25 Minnesota 9-3

Texas would have been eliminated (as Kansas State won the conference championship and OU was higher in the rankings)

OU got one of the at-larges for being #1. OSU got the other for being ranked higher.

Unfortunately, the 5th BCS game wasn't added until the 2006-2007 season.

I swear I hate Ohio State almost as much as Bama and UF.

We're still a top 10 overall program in the toughest conference in the country. No reason to hate, we've just been dealt a tougher road, everybody knows that. When people look back on who we have defeated and who that sh**hole program (OSU) defeated to make it to where each program is today, then they'll understand. SEC football is where it's at and if anybody disagrees, they're denying facts.
