Beer Barrel Game

Theyre holding out for a bourbon barrel
I do think they should call it the Whiskey Barrel when they bring it back. Kentucky is known for bourbon whiskey and Tennessee is known for Tennessee whiskey. Calling it the beer barrel never made much sense. Especially since whiskey is aged in a barrel and beer isn’t.

The schools raking in cash over alcohol sales but refusing to bring the beer barrel back will never make sense

I understand why they don’t want to bring back the beer barrel. It’s not a good look showing college students, about 60-75% of whom are underage, celebrating by holding a barrel of beer. There’s a difference between selling beer to of-age adults in a stadium and allowing college students to celebrate and promote underage drinking.

I do like the beer barrel, but I understand that they don’t want to promote underage drinking, especially when it is such a huge problem on college campuses.

It’s a barrel. Alcohol advertising is ubiquitous. They’re selling alcohol in the stadium. But an empty barrel is what’s going to make them drink.

Never missed it. It was a one sided ceremonial trophy. Akin to Bama and Florida hoisting a ceremonial kick in the noots every season they played us. See any celebrations yesterday when Michigan didn’t have to disturb the gathered dust at the bottom of the Little Brown Jug? Some old college traditions passed their time. Let it stay retired like kidnapping the opposing schools mascot every year. 😴

I didn’t say the barrel would make them drink. I said college students, most of whom are underage, celebrating with the beer barrel promotes underage drinking, which is bad PR. Yes, they are selling alcohol in the stadium, but they are checking ID’s and selling that alcohol to 21+ adults, not to underage students.

I’ll try an analogy. Imagine Weigel’s having a commercial of a bunch of teenagers partying around a keg. Would that be good for their image? And ask yourself this: is that commercial the same as Weigel’s selling beer to 21+ adults in their store?

You say “It’s a barrel,” but they specifically call it a “beer barrel,” and parade it around as a trophy, as if they are going to drink out of it after the game. That’s promoting underage drinking.

Like I said, I like the beer barrel. I wish they would bring it back, but I understand why the schools see it as bad PR.

I disagree. And that’s fine. But if that’s the issue, why not bring it back and just call it “The Barrel”? The beer part never made sense anyway.

Then you can force Kentucky’s hand. If they still refuse, even after removing the alcohol aspect, we know they’re lying about their reasoning and just don’t want it because they never win it.

Can’t be just their decision. UT agreed and neither feel the need to resurrect it.

I’m saying that if UT proposed that, and UK rejected it, they’ve shown their hand. Yes, obviously both must agree, but it was brought about by the Kentucky side and an alcohol related accident that killed 2 of their players…and UT agreed.

If CFB, UT, and UK could make a dollar off it they all would agree. GREED!!!...Put a Pilot and/or Kroger logo on the barrel and they'll be all in like Ron Jeremy.

And what’s changed that would sway both to agree on it’s return?

Who can blame UK? Why would they need another reminder that we own them and that they're terrible program. UK would have had the barrel just 7 time since 1965.

Can’t believe Kentucky pulled it out. These are the games they typically lose in the end with some crazy bone headed play.
You mean when they play us...I have Kentucky friends who are convinced they are cursed against us.
