A few more performances like the past week and Hillbilly may start posting about Mercer basketball.

I thought you'd be more concerned with Vandy recruiting?
I will probably buy season tickets to Vandy next year so I can see some SEC games, including the Vols, without lending any support to an administration that is hell bent on settling for mediocrity. It's not because I want to be a Vandy fan. I was raised in the Nashville area, went to many Vandy games as a kid, and formerly owned season tickets for the Dores when I lived on Blakemore Ave. about three blocks from Dudley Field. Believe me, if I wanted to be a Vandy fan I would've made the switch a long time ago. Having hopefully carified that for you might I add that I am convinced that the only thing that will get rid of Phil is loss of revenue. Maybe one person can't make a difference but i'd sure as heck rather be part of the solution than part of the problem.

Already did it, although I don't really watch much college hoops until March. If the Bears can keep it up though I may actually go watch them play at Belmont and/or David Lipscomb. :)

edit: Mercer Bears get more Honey!

wow rex....3 negative recruiting threads in just a couple of days.

EW to Duke, Jones to Bama, Hightower to Bama, Walls to Ole Miss, wow, tell me what recruiting I have to be positive about in the last couple of days.

No secret that the state of Tennessee doesn't have the greatest recruiting base so as long as we get better recruits from somewhere else then He can have them.

cant see the forrest for the trees.......the fact that our state does not produce a plethora of talent is exactly the reason we have to hold onto the few that can play.

It has nothing to do with lumber, why waste our time trying to keep kids that have every intention of going somewhere else in the first place.

did you read that Hightower felt more love from Bama? how do you assume they're going elswhere? granted, some kids are bound and determined to leave the state, but most want their family to be able to see them play so if you recruit them correctly they'll head to the Hill.

With every Sec team now having a decent coach and a program on the rise to sell, its just going to get even harder for phil to have steller classes. Know doubt about it we need a big signature win like in atlanta. We need to get there and pay lsu back for 2001. I would say hopefully we sign some big uglys this year. We are seriously hurting on quality depth.

This class is going to be mainly OL and DL with a few skill positions thrown in

2 things you can always count on in recruiting.

1. SomeTennessee kids ALWAYS leave.
2. UT never has a good class early.

Will we bounce back as usual this year? Who knows but to say that Saban is raiding us is silly. There are ALWAYS kids who leave Tennessee to go to bammer. They have done it for every coach that has ever coached in bammer. (exept Price :))

Another thing you can always count on in tennessee recruiting:
3) Fulmer only recruits every other year or every third year. The years in between (i.e. this year, he) just goes through the motions and settles on very average players.

Rex -- in response to your initial post. Bama may have beaten us this year, but isn't exactly a utopia season for them. Saban is a good recruiter, but not a great game coach (there I said, who wants to argue). So, I hope he doesn't steal any of our topc recuits.

How I learned to stop worrying, and accept the final result.

god grant me:
--serenity to accept things I cannot change
--courage to change things that I can
--wisdom to know the difference

In other words, I wish we could get the #1 recruiting class every year. But I don't believe that my desire for a strong class has any correlation to the class UT ends up landing.

Thus, I have found wisdom to know the difference...and that is good.

it's somewhat ironic that someone with bourbon in their screen name would quote the serenity prayer.

I think the kids that go to other schools would go to those schools no matter the state of our program. Tenn has been pulling kids from all across the US for years and that has been our style. I think that for us to think that the talent in TN has greatly improved over the past couple of years is wrong. Auburn has been taking kids from Nashville for a while now. Saban can grab one or two, but we take our fair share from SC, FL, NC, CA, GA and numerous other places. Thing is we recruit based on need (hopefully) and if a kid is talented in TN and we don't need him he may slip away. It all boils down to coaching anyway.

Where was that qb we won the NC with from? The rb on that team? The LB's on that team? Was one star on that team from TN?

you're missing the point. if a guy from the state of Tennessee can play, we need to keep him home. I hate to see a kid from Tennessee star at Alabama/Florida/LSU. etc. Of course we recruit nationally, we have to, we dont have a choice, but I guarantee you that if all things were equal, Phil would rather play with guys from our state.

No... I got the point. Despite what you may think of CPF he has recruited well and has passed on local talent, for better talent. His recruiting has given TN the best winning PCT. in the SEC. I dont think that missing a recruit here and there in TN has hurt us at all. TN is not, repeat, not a hotbed for talent. When a kid from TN is playing qb for AL and he beats us I will probably be a little disappointed, but it hasnt happened and I dont see it happening anytime soon.
