Belmont will learn in a hurry that trying to consistently beat Murray State is an entirely different animal than beating up on the Kennesaw States of the world.
Good points. However, I'd like this move a lot more for Belmont if Byrd wasn't at the back end of his career.Agree. It'll be tougher for them to get their auto-bid now for sure. I think Byrd will transition well and it might help Belmont be able to recruit better athletes long term by being in a better conference now. The move is also smart financially from a travel and attendance standpoint. With more gate dollars from more regional teams and less travel expense- the budget for recruiting might be increased as well.
I think perception wise it is for sure. RPI aside, I think people recognize and somewhat respect the OVC, where as most probably didn't know Belmont is in the A-Sun.The reason I ask is that I live in an A-Sun town and was surprised to read in the paper this morning that the A-Sun's RPI was a good bit higher than the OVC's this season.
There's no reason they can't still play. UTEP and New Mexico State are in different conferences and they still play twice a year.Once Byrd leaves they may regret this move. There goes the "Battle of the Boulevard".
I guess it's all about the benjamins nowaday.
