they can still play but it wont have the same meaning. Its much like when the SEC split into two divisions.

Also, no one's said Lipscomb won't make the same move. The door is open for them. Lipscomb moving over would give the OVC an even 12 teams.

He still has his main excuse, the fact he sucks.

If Lipscomb goes with Belmont, the A-Sun will be even more of a crossing point for NAIA and Division II schools to get into the 'AA. Which is sad for ETSU, considering we have decent basketball tradition. Belmont's rise to dominance can be greatly associated with Bartow's inability to utilize the significant talent advantage he has enjoyed.

So, yes. He sucks. Bad.

Belmont will give the OVC the 12th team.

Thanks. Forgot for a moment.

Im guessing gulf south conference but that is purely a guess.

Great move by the school and long overdue IMO. I can't help to think it would have happened sooner had the naia tournament not been in their backyard.

I do wonder if they will consider adding football with lambuth shutting down.

The OVC commish was on 104.5 in Nashville this morning. She threw a bit of cold water on the OVC adding Lipscomb.

Doesn't look like they have plans to anytime soon.

I didnt realize (nor care) the OVC already have a member that is basketball only so adding another isnt that big of a deal then. I remember how much crap they had to go thru just to get a baseball stadium so I didnt know where they'd even consider building a fb stadium in that neighborhood. Sure there's always LP field but TSU already plays there.

It'll be interesting to see how this affects the A-Sun. Lipscomb is always chasing Belmont. I'm sure the Bisons are already trying to figure out a way to counter ther Bruins' move. I'd love to see Mercer get the hell out of that conference and reunite with some traditional rivals in the Southern Conference. All of the other original TAAC members are gone.

That conference has always had a shifting membership. But recently its footprint has just gotten all out of whack. It wouldn't be as big of a deal if there were still divisions like there were when Belmont first joined in '01, but now the conference is just too spread out.

ETSU got what they deserved when they dropped football and were kicked out of the SoCon. If ETSU wants to get back where they were, they need to get serious about their athletic program, starting with reinstating a football team and building a real facility for it to play in.

If they're not going to do that, then they should just be Division III in athletics. There's no excuse for a university with 15,000-plus students operating an athletic program the way ETSU does.

That's the truth.

With the advantages that ETSU has, there is no reason they aren't dominating the A-Sun.

It will be interesting to see what happens in a few years when Mercer has an established football program to go along with what has become a pretty decent basketball program.

Actually, aside from this year's upset loss to North Florida in the conference semifinals, they are...

-6 straight overall conference all-sports championships
-6 straight men's conference all-sport championships
-2 of the last 3 men's basketball championships
-4 straight women's basketball championships
-5 straight men's tennis championships
-4 of the last 5 women's tennis championships
-5 men's track championships in 6 years
-Men's soccer championship in just their 3rd season
-Baseball among top 25 in RPI, just beat #8 Georgia Tech (and has Todd Raleigh peeing-his-pants-level scared to play)

That being said. They are still the "tallest midget" in the Atlantic Sun and need to get into a competitive conference again. Football would go a long way with that.

Back in their NAIA days I always remember Everyone chasing Lipscomp. Course back then it was DLC and DLU before going with just Lipscomb. I was at Freed. We could beat Lipscomb, but we were only that good for our game with them. Can't remember the coaches name back in the 80's but he sure could field top teams at Lipscomb.

I should have said "dominating the sport that anyone would actually care about." And Belmont has 4 of the last 6 titles in that sport. As long as they are playing in the ASun, as it's currently configured, ETSU should be running everyone else off the court. Kinda like Georgia State and UCF were doing for a while.
