Ben Joyce

Joyce was the counselor for my 8-year old’s group at TN baseball camp last summer. I assume that was in part because he was out of commission at that time. I sent my son with a ball to collect autographs and he came home with one lone signature, Ben Joyce. It’s great to see him having success and we will hold on to that ball!

Joyce's career (and future paycheck) will come down to 2 things: health and control. The raw talent alone will have MLB front offices salivating and get him a nice draft spot, but there are challenges that come with throwing 100+ consistently. It's hard to put that much on your body over time. And the control has to be consistent. Wouldn't be surprised to see an MLB team bring him down 2-3 MPH to get a better handle on his mechanics and control.

Yep. Health is key. He has already had one major surgery, which is totally fine, but it is avoiding the wear and tear that can add strain to your arm that is important.

I’ve seen a fair share of power pitchers that have been unable to stay healthy in the majors and it derailed their careers. He has all of the tools to be successful, he just needs to make sure his mechanics are sound and be sure to locate. If he can have pinpoint location on that fastball, even major league hitters will have trouble catching up to 102.

And now your 9 yr old throws an 86 mph fastball.

Major league hitters can catch up to just about any speed if it's out over the plate. There's such a thing as being wild in the strike zone. He will have to learn to precisely locate that thing to be successful in the bigs, and carry the off speed pitch, too.
