Last Vol player I didn't care for was #34 Steve Johnson...he was just plain bad...

Is that why he was All SEC?

no back on this team or any other for that matter would have held onto that ball...perfect hit at the most imperfect(for us) time

If you carry the ball with proper technique and look where you are going w/ your head up, you won't fumble.

With good ole Steve I only remember the bad...he got burned a lot...the next time I watch some of the '98 season games I'll pay more attention to him.

He sure as heck made TWO (2) big catches and runs with YAC in the drive right b4 the end of the first half..

Ease up on CA. I remember Jay Graham fumbling against Florida and James Stewart against BAMA THAT COST US GAMES. They all do it. From what I see he's at least getting open unlike some of our highly rated WR's.

I would agree with you except for the fact he's been dropping passes all season. That indicates he's not good good hands and doesnt do things fundamentally right. It wasnt a real big surprise to me he fumbled. He's a converted DT who is still struggling with the position. I'm still amazed Holbert isnt the starting FB considering hes been a RB since high school.

jr don't you know that our opponent never makes a great play! UT messes up and the other team is just lucky that we are so bad!

I will take Corey any day. Clausen put the ball behind him on the "drop". Guys that big can't reach back as easily while running and a qb has to know that. It was a short pass and it was still a bad pass. Bad pass, plain and simple. Should he have caught it? It would have been nice but he didn't.

Do you think maybe, just maybe the coaches are seeing something that makes them stick with CA?

I stand behind him and think he is good and will be better.

Is that a question or a statement?

Do you balme CA for not catching that last pass from Clausen?

We gotta remember, these guys aren't making millions of $$. When they do, then we can make expectations for them to be perfect. Well, not perfect, but you know what I mean.

He makes some plays, and screws up some others. I think it's pretty typical of a college athlete. That's why they dont ALL go pro.

Holbert, or any other player you want to name would have lost the ball with the hit the defender put on the ball, good defensive play, CA's bad luck that he was the ball carrier at the time...... like I said before not arguing that the boy has dropped some passes that should have been caught but that fumble would have occurred with anybody carrying the ball.

Someone mentioned the O-line being bad. What I don’t get is why are they so bad after practicing against our D line every day. My God! you would think that they could blow other teams off the ball at will and catch a star in the heavens. What’s deal? Our d-line kicks butt and they scrimmaged against one another all year long, yet the O-line looks bad, the receivers can’t catch or get open, and QB’s can’t throw worth a darn . Did our D-line just beat them up so bad that they never had any confidence going into the games? And still have their tails tucked between their legs?

I think CA should have lowered his shoulder and not let the defender get a diret hit on the ball. If a RB lets a defender get a clean hit on the ball he is going to have problems fumbling. Thats why they all try to lower their pads. Its not like CA is going to outrun anyone. I expect him to lower his shoulder and try to run over people anyways.

The bottom line is, when a player fumbles he's got no one to blame but himself.

Maybe we ought to throw him cheeseburger's at practice.

Or, better yet, in the game? You might be on to something. And, here: we could lace a pair of diamond studs into the ball in case we try to go to the receivers.

We have all seen what Cory is capable of doing when he catches and holds on to the ball. We saw what he could do on our 95 yard drive to the endzone before halftime at Memphis.

He's not that far off. He knows that when he gets the ball, he's going to get some yards after the catch. His only problem is that he's looking for a guy to plow over before he brings the ball into his body. I think it's just a little lack of patience. Catch the ball and THEN run over everyone. He'll figure it out.

And let me just add that for what Anderson lacks in catching passes, he is making up for in blocking. He's a big part of Foster having those yards. If our WR's would get open and catch the ball, we wouldn't have to worry about our fullback dropping them.

:banghead: Cory is talented just like many of the other players on the team. Focus, discipline and execution are the problems. UT is fertile ground for the right OC. If Fulmer can get over is own pride, hire the right OC and get out of the way, UT will have a lot of success next year and beyond.
