Bernard King has been listed by SI.com as one of the greatest college basketball freshman of all time. 26.4 ppg and 12.3 rbs will do that for you as a true freshman.
I grew up listening to those games called by John Ward in the mid-1970's. There was nothing better than Ward shouting "Bernard KING! OF THE VOLUNTEERS!" After some insane post move in the lane.
For all of you who think the last 6 years have been our best in hoops think again. Bernard is widely credited with being the 2nd best player in the HISTORY of the SEC behind Pistol Pete Maravich. LINK

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see Maravich in there. He scored like 40 a game. How does he not make it?

Bernard King is the best bb player ever in the SEC. Maravich shot the ball 40 times a game. If King had shot as much as Pete,Bernard would have averaged 50 pts a game. King was also an excellent passer and great rebounder.

Why is Harrison Barnes even on this list?

Dude is averaging 12 ppg.

The list isn't credible to me at all because of Barnes being on it.

On Barnes, it says: "If he wants to be one of the best freshmen in NCAA history however, he has his work cut out for him. SI.com takes a look at the competition."

Bernard King is one of the greatest basketball players in the history of the sport college and pro. Most who played against him such as Larry Bird and Isaiah Thomas say he was the hardest person to guard they ever played including Michael Jordan. Had King not been injured he would have had even greater stats in the pros than he does. He should be in the hall of fame.

Bernard was dominant. He had the quickest release I've ever seen. My personal favorite of his was the back to back 50 point games in the NBA. He made 40 out of 51 shots in the two games and had no scoring support, so he was doubled all the time.

Sometimes I hate being twenty years old. I've seen King in TBA on the wall, I've heard about him, read stats on him, but never been told or seen myself really just how good he is. But if You're going to say that only Pistol Pete was better than him in the SEC (with the likes of Charles Barkley and Shaq especially), that ranks him at least in the top 10-20 all time NCAA players.

Better college player than either. Probably better pro, but goofy rules make Shaq dominant. King was easily a top 10-20 all time kind of player.
