Best and Worst Coaching jobs this year

Worst (tie) Mack Brown and Lane Kiffin. The Tennessee team he said would suck is fairly likely going to end up with more wins than his loaded semi-pro team.

Of course the Panthers couldn't have run that table. Have you seen them this year? Historically inept.

As bad as they are, the Panthers would dismantle every team on Bammer's schedule. Teams would consider themselves fortunate to score at all.

I wouldn't say Kiffin did a good job, but he's at 7 wins after taking over a 9 win team that went on probation. If he were bowl eligible, he could equal last year's performance. He hasn't done great, but Brown is taking an NC contender and missing a bowl. They are last in their division, behind freaking Baylor. Second to last in the Big 12. They have the exact same record as Colorado, a school that fired their coach midseason.

How quickly we forget that Alabama lost NINE defensive starters.

I wouldn't say Butch Davis has been awful. UNC came into the year with a very solid team, ready to contend, and they got decimated by this agent scandal. Even with that, they're three plays from being 10-2. He did fine, under the circumstances.

Mack Brown was bad. And Mack Brown would probably be the first one to admit it.

The best imo is the Oklahoma State coaching staff (particularly offensive coaches), I was watching gameday today and had no idea what they have done compared to last year.

The worst besides Texas to me is Miami or Clemson they both had expectations and talent coming into this year and have failed pretty badly

Holgorsen wins every where he goes.

Dude will have a HC gig soon enough.

A lot of people seem to be ignoring BP. His program has steadily improved each year. He has amassed a few quality wins and has the usual BP offensive firepower.

Oh, another mention: Art Briles had a nice year.

I think Griffin is a serious Heisman candidate.

Throw in Borges and Hoke.

SDSU easily could have been undefeated at this point.

SDSU is my annual "Best team that absolutely nobody is talking about."

Although that BYU loss is a pretty bad one, but the Aztecs lost heartbreakers on the road to Mizzou, TCU and Utah. It doesn't hurt that they have easily the sweetest uniforms in college ball.

Best- Mark Dantonio and Mike Sherman
Worst- Mack Brown and Urban Meyer

I agree with all of this except Urban Meyer. Florida had a lot of Freshmen playing this year. Dantonio & Sherman have done excellent jobs with what they had. I would also add Steve Spurrier to that list. Mack Brown should be embarrassed to collect his paycheck. I would add Turner Gill also to the list of coaches that had a bad year. I know it was his 1st year, but come on, there's a whole lot of quit in them Jayhawks.

Best:
Gene Chizik - The man was booed before he got off the plane @ Auburn, and he's one game away from playing for a national title. Time will tell if it's legit or not.
Agreed. I think he'll end up getting fired after a while, but I can't really criticize him too much at the moment.

Worst:
Mack Brown and Urban Meyer (tie) - At least Texas had a signature win against Nebraska. UF's biggest win this season was South Florida. Expect both of these guys to clean house and bring in some seasoned assistant coaches next season.
Not really sure how they can compare. Meyer was still a game away from making the SEC title game. Brown isn't going to a bowl game.

Criticizing him right now wouldn't look too bright for obvious reasons. However, I'm fairly certain that Malzahn and Newton are the main reasons for his success.

In Meyer's case, the question is how much of the failures of one assistant coach you lay at the feet of the head coach.

As the season wore on, it wasn't just Addazio crapping the bed every week.

Our d-line couldn't get pressure, we had two 5th year seniors starting at LB who still haven't made a play all year, in addition to that abortion of an offense.

You can't be serious about Chizik. Mahlzan deserves assistant of the year, and Scam is best player...but Chizik is a puppet bafoon who has no clue on defense, which is his specialty.

I gotta give Dan Mullen and Mississippi State some credit, they did a great job this season. Also Gene Chizik at Auburn, Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State, and Mark Dantonio at Michigan State. Worst, really nobody in my opinion compares to Mack Brown. First time in the BCS Era that a team has played for the National Championship and the next season missed a bowl game.

The defensive line has performed as predicted, IMO. The losses to the NFL were too great for them to be terribly effective.

While I agree that the entire team has underperformed, by far the biggest problem has been the putrid offensive line. The lack of a reliable running game has led the Gators to struggle with any offensive game plan.

Yesterday was the perfect example. Nothing on offense worked with any consistency and so they were out there just taking shots at trying to find something that would be productive. Not a good sign at the end of the regular season.

At the begining of the year I was one of those who refused to blame Addazio and I admit in part that was my foolish concern that it reflected poorly on Meyer, who I like, for the most part.

But facts are facts and loyalty to Addazio in the offseaon would, in my mind, be a much worse knock on Meyer than bringing him in to begin with.
