As top prospects continue to commit to other schools and fall off the UT recruiting board, it is getting little too late to keep saying, “It’s still early.” Personally, I’m too old to have the patience for a multi-year, maybe decades-long, rebuilding process. I still want to see a top ranked recruiting class this year to add to this year’s talented freshmen, most of which are already getting allot of playing time. I believe a highly ranked recruiting is still very feasible, if Dooley can somehow gain the confidence of the best players still considering UT. (Not that the final seconds of the LSU game helped his case.) If we can believe what we read on the ESPN, Rivals, and Scout websites, this appears to be our best case recruiting scenario remaining for 2011 in order of need:

2 DTs – Mickey Johnson and JUCO Maurice Couch (Must sign these guys.)
1 OL – Antonio Richardson (Adding Richardson gives UT as good a class of linemen as any program will sign.)
3 DBs – Geraldo Orta, Kadetrix Marcus, Blake Countess, Kevin Grooms, Avery Walls, Wayne Lyons, or Malcolm Mitchell (No shortage of great safeties out there leaving cornerback Blake Countess as the most needed of this list.)
1 TE – Jay Rome or Cameron Clear
1 LB – Lamar Dawson (Thought about making it Lamar Dawson or Gionni Paul, but I did say “best case scenario.”)
1 WR - DeAnthony Arnett, Devin Clarke, or Kevin Benjamin
1 RB – Andrew Buie or Mike Blakely
1 DE – Xzavier Dickson

Can Dooley pull this off (or something very close this)?

Looks very promising right now. I'd take Mickey Johnson out because of the grades issue, and put in Gabe Wright.

Nothing's final till signing day. Sometimes not even then. I'm just going to wait and see how it all pans out.

Maurice COUCH- Miami
Gabe Wright- Auburn
Mickey Johnson- Juco

Pick different DT's guys because these guys are not feasible options.

Thanks very much OP I really enjoyed reading this.

I do not think Dooley has any chance at a top 5 class until he wins 8 or 9 games next year.

Many people underestimate the power of a bowl win or loss for perception.

If we still can go 5-2 the rest of the way losing to Alabama and SC we can get into a decent bowl but one we should win like the weedeater bowl.

If we had beaten LSU and gone 5-2 the rest of the way, we would be a team hungry to travel that goes to something like the Outback and gets HAMMERED by a team like Wisconsin or Michigan State.

I am pleased with the possibility of a bowl win against a crappy team.

HAHAHAHAHA! Do you really believe these guys are not feasible options or are you trying to start arguments about a topic you know nothing about? Judging on your other posts, I would say the latter is true.

Best case scenerio, we wrap up the state, and this includes: Derek King, Dunaway, Richardson, Clear, Tino Thomas.... and at a long stretch Alexandro Antonie and Terry Redden.

Hope you are right about Wright. ESPN, Rivals, and Scout don't have us high in the running. Not ruling out a surprise or two though. Five star OL Cyrus Kouandjio, for example, is not likely, but isn't out of the question.

I've learned not to trust the recruiting sites when it comes to things like this. I just use them for ratings and breaking news.

Cyrus Kouandjio is pretty much out of the question, unless he wants to play his brother every year. But even then he'd go somewhere else.

You are correct, sir. But, still not ruling out a surprise signee of that nature.

You missed Loften at DB. It'll be nice if he qualifies. Also, Dallas at WR seems to be our most talked about target. And I want to sign 4 more on the D-line in case one doesn't qualify, but that would be oversigning by one.

We are not in play for Kelvin Benjamin at all.

Blakely & Grooms , neither. I dont think we've had a stitch of contact with Grooms since early Summer.

We are definitely in it for Grooms.

"The schools that I am looking at that I know now are Tennessee, Rutgers, Kansas State, Oregon and Ole Miss."

- Grooms on Sept 7th

We are on the outside looking in for Blakely but he keeps mentioning us.

“And I haven’t given much thought to narrowing down my list between Ole Miss and Tennessee,” he said. “I like the two schools because I have a really good chance at early playing time at both.”

- Blakely on Sept 30th

LV do me a favor, ask JB about Grooms. When I asked him, he didnt even know who Grooms was.

Ive asked Hubbs and he said he would check, and he hasnt gotten back to me since...

lol thats why I dont believe there's anything there

Grooms is a big enough target that we would have heard alot about him if we were making progress. He's one of the best athletes in Florida

This is a perfect (within reason) finish in my mind:

WR: Arnett, Dallas
OL: Richardson, Clear
DT: Wright, Johnson
DE: Williams
LB: Paul
DB: Marcus, Thomas, Loften (qualified)

I would be beyond happy with that class

I actually think that's pretty spot on. However, I would put King in one of the DB spots. It will be exciting to see how the staff handles all the DB prospects we're in on. The fact we have a couple trying to qualify just messes everything up. Do we overcompensate for DB's because we aren't confident with the DT recruits?

I'll ask him.

We have apparently made progress with Grooms. Besides him mentioning us first in his last article, Hubbs mentioned him twice in the Sept 24th War Room:

Tennessee isn’t giving up on some of the top prospects in Florida as they continue to call, evaluate and work hard for guys like Sammy Watkins, Mike Blakely, Mike Bellamy, Andrew Buie, Robenson ‘Cadillac’ Therezie, Kevin Grooms, Kent Turene, Terry Bell, Gionni Paul, among others.

While most of them are longshots, some at Tennessee feel like they are in deep with guys like Paul, Turene and are growing on guys like Watkins and Grooms. Obviously it’s a long time until signing day and Tennessee is hoping to continue to develop relationships with coaches Darin Hinshaw and Charlie Baggett hitting the state hard and land a visit from a few of the Sunshine State prospects.
