Best golf course you have played

Great course. Honestly, I believe it is a better layout than the Ocean Course. I played the Ocean course in Feb of 1992 after the Ryder Cup in fall of 1991. It was in great shape. Hard and fast. We played from a set of tees so far back, the yardages weren't even on the scorecard...about 400 yards further than they played the Ryder Cup. Since it was so hard, 300+ drives were common in our group. Played Turtle Point and the others as well. Went back in 1994 and the Ocean course was in terrible shape. Haven't played it since, but have been back there twice. Always stay at condos adjacent to Turtle Point. I love the layout. Best course over there in my opinion. Heck, I like Osprey better than the Ocean Course.

The question is courses that you have played...I have not played any of those, but I hear great things about them

Too young to afford any golf trips to nice courses. I can't wait when I get some money to do this

Only nice course that I have played that would be nationally recognized would be Atlanta Athletic Club Highlands Course, sight of the 1981, 2001, and 2011 PGA Championship.

4. Mahagony Run - St. Thomas (The Devil's Triangle!)
5. Breakers West - WPB Fla. (site of my 1 and only ace!)

You must not have played all the Open rotation courses in Scotland and maybe it is just me, but I liked the Old Course the least of all the Scotland rota. It isn't even close to being the best conditioned and is the easiest of the rota as well;however, the atmosphere is awesome and I do like it, just not as much as the others.

I played a course this past Sunday for the first time. It was Robert Trent Jones at Shoals. Played Fighting Joe. From the tips it was a little over 8000 yards. Yes, I said 8,000. The next set of tees was 7400 and then it went down to 6600. We played the 8000 set. I suppose I don't need to explain how tough it was. Best score of 8 scratch or lower players was 81 and next best was 83. Four guys didn't break 90....one was 1984 AA at Oklahoma St. The other course is called Schoolmaster and is supposedly equally as hard. Next time we will play 7400 tees. 8000 is too long. Shortest par three was 231. Longest was 265. One par 5 was 712, one at 685, one at 653 and one at 615. Shortest iron I hit into a par four was 5 iron and I murdered my drive all day. Best 83 I ever shot. From the 8000 tees, it is defnitely the harderst course I have ever played. It will be tough from 7400 markers.

Figured some of you might have played at this complex. Great clubhouse and facilities right on Tennessee river.

looks like the wife is about to book a wedding in maui...which means a free trip to hawaii for me...hopefully i'll be hitting the links :)

Late to the game on this one, but the 5 best I've played:

1. The Old Course at St. Andrews (got on at 6:30 in the morning about 2 weeks before Christmas while studying abroad - a magical experience).
2. Pinehurst #2 - kicked my butt.
3. Grandfather CC - Linville, NC. Best scenery of any course I've played. Gorgeous.
4. Harbour Town - not the best manicured course on HHI, but it's got great history.
5. Haig Point - Daufuskie Island, SC. Beautiful.

I saw GAVol mention East Lake - that's tops on my list. Love the whole concept of that course, combining history with doing something good for the area. Drove by it last time I was in Atlanta, and it looked like it was in amazing shape.

Did you play the calibogue holes @ Haig Pt.? No room for error there.

Ailsa at Turnberry was a complete disaster when I was there. Old Course is the Old Course, but didn't do it for me. Royal Dornoch was my favorite of the Scottish variety. Old Head was far and away the best course I played while over there.

Kapalua - Plantation Course is the place to play there. Take some coin though it is about $300 to play. Play it in the morning or the wind will eat your ball.
The Kaanapoli courses are less expensive but do not have the views of Kapalua.
Oh, by the way, congrats on the wedding.

I'm pretty stoked about her booking these destination weddings...but i'm getting tired of airports.

Been to Bandon and walked all the courses but never played. Amazing location, though.
